**** me you've all lost the plot. 90s pop was heinous I tell you. It's when the generic, bland pop sound came in and it's never recovered. Totally different to the 80s when individuality reigned supreme. **** me it's depressing listening to you lot

Maybe its not us whos lost the plot;):D

That it was. Must admit the late 80's are when it started to turn awesome, but to me music peaked in the early to late 90s. What a crazy decade.
How old are you Chef if you don't mind me asking?

The late 80s were good only because we all started turning away from the mainstream which had become shit and started listening to house music that hadn't really infiltrated the charts at that point. Of course once the "underground"turned to the mainstream it all turned to shit as it invariably does. The dross that became popular from about 92 onwards was exactly that - dross. If you didn't live through those times you aren't gonna get it

Wow are you blaming my birth for the "decline" of music?

I'll take that as a compliment.

I was born in 76. I have a muso older brother(still in a band today) so was lucky enough to experience a huge range of music going up. Late 80s to late 90s is the golden decade for me

The blame lays by the fact we are not as individualistic and creative as we once were. Just one big bland globallist money making scheme. ****ing sad really the decline of artistic expression when I think about it

I think the sad part is that you clearly haven't made an attempt to find it.

There is an incredible amount of individuality and creativity in music at the moment.

Especially Radiohead.

Ok fair enough you witnessed the change. You probably took longer to tune in than me though

Radiohead are alright but they are just one band. I could name a few more but as a whole they are not very representative of the decade. Unfortunately it's dominated by bland pop, dance and R&B. The exceptions were a few good rock bands and electronic acts plus rap if you were into that

Well had you tuned in around '88 or '89 you would have noticed how shit things had got by 92-93.

Now you are just making stuff up.

First tape i ever bought for myself was Licenced to ill in 1985, had to hose out the dairy for a week to afford it. Still love it today. Violent Femmes, The Cure, The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Saints, Radio birdman, Dead Kennedys, The Ramones etc etc i grew up around these bands

Having a muso brother i got to miss all the commercialised shit that they played on the radio the 80s and early 90s. I was very lucky

Has it ever occurred to anyone that both the 80's and 90's had some good music.

Which is better probably comes down to personal preference, can't say I've ever thought about it long enough to know which I'd prefer.

Doesn't take a lot of thought when Radiohead are in one decade but not the other.

Yeah its very subjective. As ive said a few times theres no right answer as everyones into different things. That the beauty of music.
