Well... there is one thing...

Chip-Beauty-and-the-Beast-trailer_kctweg.jpg

I've just seen the trailer now, and the only one that gets a pass for now is candelabra Lumiere (who actually does have a man form for his candelabra form.) I guess the others will need to take some time. Also like how Chip has chipped pupils there.

I'll admit, it probably would've looked a little weird... then again, we did have musical live-action stuff before, but... there's just a clear tone of difference between the live action film of yesteryear and the ones we're getting now. I guess it just came about as they got more comfortable with their material... of course, there is an expectation that the live action stars need to sing for their supper too.

Yeah chip looks bloody stupid that I'd admit

Autotune fixes everything anyway so even you can sing ;)

I think the Emma Watson versions sound pretty damn close to the original so they get a pass mark on that alone, pretty hard to butcher Disney songs anyway.

At least the voice works... I think so. He's got some proper Brit about him. Mrs Potts is also better aged as well.

Here's the rest for the others to see:

Lumiere's voice (Obi-Wan Kenobi... in fact, many have called this 'the Ultimate Crossover') is bang perfect I'd say. The others... yeah. It's also weird to hear Gandalf's voice coming out of Cogsworth.

Heh, it does a decent enough job. though it still couldn't save Bill Murray and Christopher Walken in the Jungle Book, lol. They did try their best to butcher it up, lol. Then again, we've had a crapton of musical versions, especially of Beauty and the Beast, so this should be fairly easy stuff to nail down!

Well, that's encouraging at the very least... though... doesn't she have like...two songs? As noted, the two I'm most keen for (Be My Guest, and Gaston) are going to be interesting to ear. I get the weird feeling I might like what Obi-Wan's got to offer, it sounds like he's done a lot of work to nail this.

I've heard people complaining about the live action but I don't really see anything wrong with it, some say that with all the CGI nowadays they've somehow made the movie look less good than the original but I'd say each to their own

They should've gone full musical with all the live action from the start, Disney musicals without the music (or much of it) is just dumb

What other live action ones have they done?

Well if you're gonna make the cast all British theatre then might as well get Ian McKellen which is fine

I don't mind Bill Murray's jungle book version tbh

We'll see how it goes, I'm just glad the early live actions didn't involve too many classics, if they're gonna go musical then they'll milk a lot of money outta live actioning Lion King Aladdin and so forth

What other live action ones have they done?

From a canonical point of view?

Alice In Wonderland
Cinderella
Jungle Book

If you want to stretch it a bit...
Alice in Wonderland 2
Maleficent
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Pete's Dragon (Might as well)

I almost got fooled by Snow White, that's not Disney.

Actually not as many as I thought.

The only problem is... the film is set in France, and if there was one minor nitpick I could make the original, is that that never really truly felt like the French countryside or castle feeling in late 1700s France. It would seem weird if they all go British for this, unless they're going to change the setting for the live-action film.

Fair enough, to each their own.

Mulan's next I hear. I think that's a really good choice for a live action, CGI could bring out some nice scenes. Aladdin is going to be a really tough act. A good mixture of Live Action and CGI, but who will be the Genie's successor? Little Mermaid is one I'm surprised that hasn't happened sooner.

I'm used to most things about France coming from the US having French with British accents, it's just typical ;) Only Ratatouille tried to go full French but you can'r really have a BaTB movie sounding like those people

Mulan is next eh? Blatantly trying to pander to the China market I see, except Mulan was slammed in China last time 'round

If they have Aladdin out I'm probably gonna end up bagging whoever's doing the Genie coz no one will ever do it like Robin Williams

Eh, true, lol. Well, at least the Townpeople. To be honest, I would've liked to hear Emma Watson give the French accent a go, if only for authenticity. Heck, McGregor's making a proper attempt. The servants at least get a pass.

They're trying their best to ensure all the characters are Asian (though how many of them being actual Chinese is another matter). They're actually looking for a proper mint Chinese actress to play Mulan. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Jackie Chan get a role from the live action like last time.

Maybe they are learning from the experience, because last time, I think it was dismissed for being a 'Western view on the East?' Heck, Kung-Fu Panda embraced its oriental roots, and was loved by the people. If Disney does the same here, they will win China over. Heck, the fact they're willing to go 'full Asian' is a tribute to that.

It's coming out in November next year... god, 2018 is next year!

**** Jackie Chan, **** that guy. We absolutely hate him in asia, if he sings A man outta you again in Chinese I'm gonna ****ing end him, he ruined a perfectly great song

The last one was a bit stereotypical Chinese but I don't mind it so much but China's a bit uptight with their image so yeah. I'd be interested to see the full list of actors but they're probably gonna be filled with campaigners I hate

I think if they go full asian it'll probably not do so well in the west, but they'll probably think the money it'd make in china would be enough

Oh wow, lol. Perhaps you'd like to the, well, the 'unaware' of why he isn't well liked... and I'm guessing the answer is 'Chinese 'Patriot''.

Actually, the comment does raise something... I'm guessing you have seen certain flicks in Chinese (if the film originates from there, and an English version exists), just to see if there are any notable differences?

Ok that cup is going to be giving kids nightmares

He's a campaigner of a bloke, he keeps cheating on his wife and bang out children with other chicks, then his son ends up being a druglord when he was the spokeman of the anti-drugs foundations there in asia. Yes the commie shrill's annoying but it's worse when he bags out the US constantly yet would happily go over there and take their money. Plus he's a fraud, he says he doesn't use stuntman when he does

There was this one time he gatecrashed a concert in Hong Kong got up stage and kept singing his shit songs and he got booed off stage

I watch quite a bit of them, I still keep an eye on their media coz there's occasionally good stuff coming out. I think it's a film is made from China and it makes its way out it's generally just as it is even after translation but probably there's gonna be changes if it's the other way around

Yeah, I heard about that first bit, but I wasn't aware that he was a hypocrite in regards to the Anti-Americanism, the very source of his fame, and well, his son's issues (I know there was some messed up stuff, but, yeesh, that takes the cake). And yes, he has been using stuntmen in recent time especially. Cheers for that.

What the heck... man, funny how the different sides view a person. You certainly wouldn't be hearing this over here.

And so I have heard. I have been meaning to catch up on a flick or two for a while now.

Have you watched Vegas to Macau (both of them) or Journey to the West? Those films caught my eye, especially VtM 2, because I saw that playing in cinemas, but didn't get a chance to see if they offered subtitles, and before I knew it, I missed my chance.

Yeah the West love him coz he knows how to play the clown there and first Rush hour was pretty good, but in asia we really do hate him. Just as well Taiwan has banned him from entering their country coz I don't think he'd make it out there alive

Vegas to Macau would be good, those kinda gambling movies has been a Hong Kong thing since forever, I grew up on it. The early ones with Stephen Chow were the best. Also it has Chow Yun Fat whom is a ****ing Hong Kong legend who is a top bloke unlike Jackie ****ing Chan, I'm glad he had some success in Hollywood, too

They make new Journey to the West stuff almost every year, the new ones have been quite good tbh, they always stick to the script pretty good so I'd recommend them. If they have any of those ancient chinese historical dramas I'd recommend those too, those are always interesting

There are probably people who put English subs on them on the internet, I can probably find them for ya

Oh god... Jackie Chan and Taiwan... that's totally going to end well, lol. I can only imagine the things he had to say about them.

I didn't know Stephen Chow had some influence on them! I know Chow Yun Fat was there, but now that's certainly up the list!

Ah yes, the one I'm specifically after is Conquering the Demons, which of course, is directed by Stephen Chow. Course, if I remember correctly, isn't the Forbidden Kingdom based on that? (The Jet Li version... I won't mention the other name there). If so, I would be extremely keen to see Stephen Chow's take on it!'

If you could do that, that would be freakin' awesome. Now I've got to see them!

The early 90s Stephen Chow Macau ones were bloody hilarious, it basically made his career, it also made Chow Yun Fat's, it's a revered film series in that part of the world basically

Yeah that one's produced by Chow, he had a couple Journey to the West comedy films in the early 90s which were also hilarious, haven't seen the new one so I dunno what his take's gonna be but I'd say probably won't be disappointed

I think here has some subs for the movies if you can download the actual movie somewhere:

http://www.opensubtitles.org/en/search2/sublanguageid-all/moviename-macau

Should be able to find the new Journey to the West subs there, too

Just found the names of those films, and am watching the 2nd one with Stephen Chow. Certainly is a long time ago when they're talking about 1997, but even weirder to see them talk about Donald Trump!

Well, that's the insperation right there. Hopefully I'll find it and let you know.

Cheers for that, but it looks like it's only for the third one. Ah well, Probably best I catch the classics to catch up on the hype at the time!

But more importantly, it has the subtitles for Chow's version, so I'm covered for that when I get there.

Yeah you'd be amazed at how much satire 90s Hong Kong comedy does on everything in the globe, it's the best era for Hong Kong movies, you should watch all the Stephen Chow ones from that era, absolutely hilarious, the man's basically a genius

Anyone been to Bengalaru in India? Company wants me top help open up a call centre over there. Would need to spend 2 months there, not sure I could without the missus & kids. And them going is definitely a no no :(
Sounds like a good opportunity mate. If it's only for two months, why not? Go broaden your horizons
