You’re such a hypocrite. You called me a campaigner right from the get go.

Just another example of you being completely unable to listen to any opinion that differs from your own. A specialist in snowflakery if ever there were one
I was making a point about the sites censors...

Profit by definition: the good result or advantage that can be achieved by a particular action or activity.

The good result or advantage = receiving money and being in a position to control 100% of received money

The action or activity = egging someone
For someone sick of talking about egg boy you sure are talking about him a lot.

Here's where I think we have this fundamental disagreement.

Do you truly believe the world would be a better place if everyone could freely say anything they wanted with no consequence?
For me, not necessarily so, but at the same time, I think far lefties attempting to destroy lives is over the top. Not necessarily relating to Falou, moreso people on Twitter and the like following people around and trying to ruin every aspect of a persons life. Doxxing, contacting PR departments, banking institutions, advertisers etc...and threatening anyone involved with people the left disagrees with etc....the Carlos Maza/YouTube stuff being the most recent of this.

I don’t follow Falou on Twitter, and wouldn’t have even known about his case if it wasn’t for the media 24 hour coverage, Fox Sports being the worst.

I agree to a certain extent. It depends how bad what the person did is.

Someone like Harvey Weinstein, fu** him.

If people have ruined the lives of others, then I don't have as much of a problem with it.
Not familiar with Carlos Maza at all so I won't comment there.

Because it didn't break the terms of service.

Because it broke the terms of service.

As far as I understand it, and what I have seen, the terms of service refer specifically to legal cases where bigotry is involved. I assume there is also clauses for directly funding bigotry otherwise you'd probably get the KKK on there trying to get funding.

That's not the case for things like "Help us repair our Mosque after a flood" or similar cases like that. Because while yes, there are Muslims that openly speak negatively about homosexuality and there are nations where it is punishable by death (which is obviously atrocious), not all Mosques or Muslims share that belief. In the same way that not all Muslims are extremists or terrorists.

Not sure why you've only singled out Islam either because I guarantee there are likely Christian groups with GoFundMe pages who are just as homophobic or more so than the average Muslim community.
Then I have a serious issue with their terms of service. They seem quite flawed if Egg Boy can commit a crime yet still receive donations through GoFundMe from people who are under the impression they’re financially supporting his legal fees. It is strikingly similar to Israel Folau’s case in that both subjects were in the wrong and both have people donating to them to cover their legal fees. The terms of service should not allow any donations that are linked to violence AND bigotry. Going by what you’ve said, it seems they’ve only go the latter part covered?

I would’ve thought if GoFundMe were actually committed to “fight for equality for LGBTIQ+ people”, they wouldn’t allow donations to be made to a religion that encourages their followers to throw gay people off buildings and adheres to anti-gay sentiment, prejudice and law. And I cherry picked Islam because most Muslim-majority countries oppose moves to advance gay rights and some countries retain capital punishment for homosexual behaviour, but I’m more than happy to discuss GoFundMe’s hypocrisy further and cite another case where a Christian Preacher was arrested for making derogatory remarks about homosexuals and a GoFundMe page was set up (and approved) on his behalf, yet Folau’s was taken down.

Surely if you look beyond their “terms of service”, you can see the hypocrisy, inconsistency and double standards at play here.

And just like that...I wonder if they’ll cancel this one too...

I wouldn’t be surprised if the contemporary insulation of people has lead to the rise in mental illnesses. Some people have no psychological immunity and collapse under very little pressure as a result.

Just on the Folau situation, I have found some of the responses to be quite amusing. “There are sick kids out there that are far more worthy of donations”. Fair enough, but I’m guessing the same people weren’t spouting that line when Egg Boy was raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars, quite literally profiting from crime.

Then there’s the “Folau’s GoFundMe page should be shut down because he’s a homophobe”, yet you will find many GoFundMe pages asking to donate to mosques, when homosexual acts are forbidden in Islam and are liable to different punishments, including the death penalty. Convenient silence on that topic though.

The hypocrisy of these moralising bullies is truly mind blowing.
Great post. End of the day it’s the hypocrisy of the left that appalls me the most too. That’s why they always attempt to shut down debate, because their hypocrisy is too easily exposed and they can’t back their stance up.

Here's where I think we have this fundamental disagreement.

I live my life with the mantra that whatever I do or say, I try to avoid anything that could hurt other people unless it's absolutely necessary (in cases like someone needing to be told something).

Folau is welcome to his beliefs. I think him expressing them has the potential to, and I'm sure has, hurt a lot of people. Particularly the gay community. He also said atheists in his post, so I guess the post targeted me as well but I'm not so bothered by it because I don't have the same struggles that gay people have just because I'm atheist.

Folau would be well aware that what he said would probably cause harm, which is ironically something Christians are taught to avoid I thought, but he went through with it anyway.

I'm not okay with that and I'll voice that I think what he did is wrong from a moral standpoint. You think the opposite, that everyone should be allowed to say whatever with no punishment it appears. Which I also disagree with.

Byt as it stands, and this is something you happened to not respond to in my last post, he agreed to a contract and then he broke that contract, and as a result was fired. That is a consequence.

Do you truly believe the world would be a better place if everyone could freely say anything they wanted with no consequence?

I certainly don't. I think it would only encourage bigotry and I don't think that's the way to a better society.
We don’t have a disagreement on this in truth. I don’t look to offend in my off-line (and online to a slightly lesser extent) life and actually go out of my way not to. That doesn’t mean I should have the ability to voice my concerns or criticisms when I see fit taken away though. Believe it or not, before the PC culture really started being implemented societies were not hugely divisive and uncohesive places. People by and large got along and contrary to current belief there wasn’t a continual outpouring of abuse and bullying. Whereas now, my country is more split and divided than it has ever been. That’s not all down to PC culture but when people feel as though they can’t openly debate on certain subjects then that frustration and bitterness builds up within. Not allowing people a voice does not make that persons opinions disappear, it just suppresses them and often will give those beliefs more credence whilst making them more entrenched. It’s not healthy and it contributes to the fracturing of societies we now see.

Having said all that there are limits to free speech, even I accept that. Folau’s comments are close to the line, but they don’t cross it in my opinion. His religious upbringing have given him that outlook, which is something we must tolerate, especially when you consider the leniency we afford the teachings and beliefs of religious minorities

About to get a haircut at a barbershop and on the TV there is an 80 something year old “sexpert” on the morning show giving tips. Now I’ve seen it all.

Having a look at their terms and conditions, it does seem that violence is covered in that agreement, so yes I suppose it should have been pulled as well.

I had a look and saw a headline saying that the Folau one had been flagged for review, which perhaps the Egg Boy one hadn't, but I couldn't read the article as it was paywalled.

Is that David Lynn? Just had a quick look.

Yeah, that should be taken down as well. I don't know whether it not meeting the funding target has anything to do with it though.

Out of interest Clause 8 in GoFundMe's T&C's reads:

8. campaigns we deem, at our sole discretion, to be in support of, or for the legal defence of alleged crimes associated with hate, violence, harassment, bullying, discrimination, terrorism or intolerance of any kind relating to race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender or gender identity or serious disabilities or diseases;

I know it is at the sole discretion of GoFundMe but for me that covers both egg boy's gofundme and israel folau's campaigns. Either both or neither really should have been taken down IMO.
