Apparently the UK are introducing mandatory vaccination passports that’ll be required to go to nightclubs, as of September.

Imagine when they mandate it for tinder users over there lol

The stupid thing is nightclubs are open now... So why wait til September or why open them before that? Boris and his team are genuinely thick.

Yellow cases = acquired before lockdown but picked up after. Victoria would have been completely f***ed if they’d waited any longer to lockdown.

Here’s the original transcript I assume this was based on. There’s a translate button at the top of the page if you have it.

The tweet flying around is definitely embellished and more floral, but it looks like the gist of it is largely consistent with what he actually said. The French will be mandating vaccination for certain high risk occupations, and after a grace period will introduce rules that will reward people who are vaccinated/punish those who aren’t (depending on your perspective).

”Everywhere, we will have the same approach: to recognize citizenship and place restrictions on non-vaccinated people rather than on everyone.

Starting this week, border controls will be further strengthened for nationals from countries at risk, with forced isolation for unvaccinated travellers.

From July 21, the sanitary pass will be extended to places of leisure and culture. Specifically, for all our compatriots over 12 years of age, it will be necessary to have been vaccinated or present a recent negative test to access a show, amusement park, concert or festival. This pass is available on the TOUSANTICOVID application. But everyone can use the paper version given at the time of vaccination.

From the beginning of August - and this because we must first pass a law and promulgate it - from the beginning of August, therefore, the health pass will apply in cafes, restaurants, shopping centers, as well as in hospitals, retirement homes, medico-social institutions but also in planes, trains and coaches for long journeys. Again, only vaccinated people and people tested negative will be able to access these places, whether they are customers, users or employees.

Based on the assessment of the situation, we will ask ourselves the question of extending the health pass to other activities.

This fall, the famous PCR tests will be paid for, unless prescribed by medically, in order to encourage vaccination rather than the multiplication of tests.

To be able to do all this, I will convene Parliament in special session from July 21 to consider a bill that will decline these decisions.

As you understand, vaccination is not immediately mandatory for everyone, but we will extend the health pass as much as possible to push as many of you as possible to get vaccinated.”

to give 18s and over time to get the vaccines? If not until then even the hottest club would be ‘grab a granny’

Numbers look good for Victoria today. Extremely high testing rates. Vast majority of cases already in isolation.

NSW also great testing numbers, but concerningly still not trending in the right direction in terms of either overall case numbers or % of cases already in isolation. It could be a lot worse and great to see that case numbers haven't exploded (yet), but it's looking increasingly likely we're in for a protracted, tedious couple of months of trying to get this back under control.

Yeah doubt we're getting out before September.
Are the VIC people in isolation just at home isolating or moved to facilities?

Any idea why the NSW %'s aren't improving? Is it a case of the numbers getting too high to get on top of and manageable?

Because Sydney people think they are too important

Because they are a month into a half assed lockdown, everything was still open, they have bungled it badly especially when they’ve had Victoria as a case study of what to do and what not to do

I liked this quote from Professor Bill Bowtell (one of the original architects of the very successful Australian HIV response): "Coronavirus is a non-living splinter of genetic material. It has no brains. It only obeys iron laws of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics & can only be contained or obliterated by application of policies based on these laws."

It’s not magic. If the numbers aren't improving it's because these laws haven't been correctly (or sufficiently) applied to overcome the R0 threshold and drive down transmission.

The good news is we’re not seeing exponential growth so we know the current settings in NSW are having some impact. How long it takes the state to get back down to zero and the economy back to normal depends entirely on their appetite to dial up those settings for a short period like Victoria and SA have.
