I don't agree with what she said but I can understand the basis of her reasoning.
People dismissing it as pure bigotry and racism are way off the mark.
We are going through one of the most unstable periods in international security for upwards of 30 years.
After that amount of sustained peace, there is obviously going to be fear, despite what a lot of you are saying, the average person in this country are currently scared by world events and even domestic security. I can't think of a time where Australians have ever been scared of domestic security other than the prospect of a Japanese invasion in WWII.
It's not a black and white discussion and fairly unprecedented.
