Undermanned? So many Hawks supporters coming out with this. You were missing Hodge, Mitchell and Lake. We were missing Pyke, AJ, Rohan and Mitchell from probably our Best 22. Not sure how you can say either side was really missing more than the other.

Lol wtf. Can't believe even neutrals are buying into this crap.

Bigfooty has a short memory sometimes. Go back and read the posts after the news of Hodge's late out. How many were saying "Oh yep, Swans are dead certainties now, Hawks have huge outs."?

Put all those players back in the game and Hawks win imo. I tipped the hawks (with very little confidence) and if I had have seen the Hodge late withdrawal I would have changed it, too bad for me I was at dinner and missed the news!

Lake would have neutralised Tippet or Franklin, put Hodge and Mitchell into the middle and Hannebery and Kennedy would have had much less impact. Rohan has been a peripheral figure this year even when fit, T. Mitchell is a good player but not irreplaceable like Hodge/S Mitchell, Pyke would have made some difference but not enough to affect the result I think.

That game was won in the middle (Hodge Mitchell) and by Swans big forwards (Lake). Hawks defence is their weakest point and without Lake in there it is probably bottom half of the league standard, no surprise that Tippet and Franklin had 15 odd marks and 10+ shots at goal between them.

Tipped Swans on Thursday when teams were announced and stuck by it.

Actually the game was won in our forward line. Our forward pressure was immense, and the way we locked the ball in or got it right back in after the Hawks cleared it was what led to so many of our scoring shots. Just a pity so many were behinds.

It's just hilarious because pre-game even Swans fans were worried about how stupid we were being going in with that forward line, and now the loss is being blamed on the Hawks injuries. Some have copped it on the chin and fair play to them, but the amount of people moaning about those injuries is just incredible. If we were missing say, Kennedy, Hanners and Grundy, I would have still backed us for the win against most teams because of that forward line, and if we'd have lost against a team with similar injuries to what we had last night, I wouldn't make that excuse. I certainly wouldn't expect a mod on my board to label it the Boxhill Hawks v Cola Swans clash in a thread title.

I'm not sure why anyone would have ridiculed that forward line, against the Hawks defence it seems like a logical move to go tall to me. Cheney and Shoenmakers have come a long way in the last couple of years but are still very weak defenders, and Gibson seems fairly unable to play on a direct opponent, and with Reid down there also he was unable to play as the loose man that suits him so well. Insert Lake into that team, everyone moves down an opponent and Gibson can float around creating 2 on 1s.

With the lack of established mid's in the hawks team you were always going to get plenty of inside 50's, was just a matter of whether you could convert the opportunities into goals, and (although it didn't seem like it for a while), eventually you did.

Box Hill Hawks is an overstatement, but to say the Hawks injuries had no bearing on the result is ridiculous imo.

Interesting point made on the Swans board. When we had 8-9 key injuries last year and we didn't once pull the injury card, not even in Finals, we had other teams telling us our depth was just shit and we should cop it. Which we did. A couple of injuries to the Hawks and suddenly they're singing a different tune.

Perhaps because Reid has been in shocking form and none of them have played together, meaning that going tall could have been an incredible liability since the Hawks game plan is based around their defenders running off the man to rebound out of the 50?

Hawks injuries had zero bearing on the result, considering how close they came to overrunning us. You can't say that the game was always going to be won by a team (which suggesting injuries decided the game is saying) in such a close game.

You should probably stop talking before you embarrass yourself any more than you already have.

Haha enjoy your weekend mate.

4 points is 4 points is 4 points. Get some better depth if it's such a worry for you to lose two midfielders.

I thought the swans were dead certainties before Hodge withdrew. Had money on it and got the better odds.

Sorry SM, you're delusional if you think the players you lost even come close to the players Hawthorn were missing. Lake is a norm Smith medallist and would have shut down one of the twin towers. Mitchell and Hodge are two of the very best midfielders in the comp. Tom Mitchell and Gary Rohan missing is not the same.

Amazing stat - first time both Mitchell and Hodge have missed a game since round 10 2002. Two absolute stars of the comp.

Some better depth? Yeah because replacing two of the competitions best is so easy.

We managed it last year. Guess that's the difference between a decent side and a great side.

Lol at your obvious attempt at not answering the question because you know you're wrong.

What question? The irrelevant one about the flag? Um, you did. Really not sure what relevance that has on our games against you last year considering we didn't play you in the GF.

You were banging on about depth.

This is getting heated, can't wait for the return fixture in round 18 :D

Bring it on. :D

Also going to enjoy the FA Cup Final next week, this was a tasty little prequel for Cruyff and I.

You were banging on about depth.

I'd happily take a PF with 8/22 missing for the majority of the year. No issues with our depth.

But when the boot is on the other foot, 3/22 is crippling and Reserves-esque.

Wait Swans fans still think Rohan is a good footballer? Morabito has had a better career.

Are you seriously calling him a shit player because of his injuries? He is a jet when he plays. Rod will be out end of this year and next year he'll be fine.

No I am calling him a flashy player who has one good game in ten.

Because of his injuries.. he hasn't been injury free in about two years now. Pre-injury he was playing very consistently.
