Been meaning to see it for a little while, but a friend recently told me about how well he acted in this. I found that a bit odd as all I've really seen from him recently is the Expendables stuff.

But it's well worth watching. Especially if you're a fan of the earlier series. Ties back well to the guilt he feels about Apollo's death.

There were a few scenes where I couldn't believe this was Stallone I was watching, he was ******* brilliant.

Stallone has always been a good actor, he just typecast himself early and went for the big bucks being the action hero.

He was terrific in the original Rocky and he was nominated for an Academy Award for it. He was also terrific in Copland if you've seen it.

He can be very good when he turns it on, it just seems that he usually takes the easy option action movie which is right in his wheelhouse.

It was a shame he didnt win last night for Creed. But he did get the Golden Globe.

To be fair, Ridley Scott has a point. You cant make a movie about Ancient Egypt and cast an entire Egyptian cast. Well you can try and it would be accurate and kudo's for attempting it but no studio is going to take that on.

It's not a race issue, it's a money issue. The reason the studio wont take it on is because they cant put 150 million into a movie and have it star people you've never heard of. Nobody will go see it.

But if it stars Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson then people will turn out in droves.

Just the way it is unfortunately.

Joel Edgerton has quite the profile in Hollywood. He has a slew of good films on his resume. He also wasnt the lead, the lead was Christian Bale. You know... Batman and one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

No one's talking about doing an all Egyptian cast of film amateurs, but using people of a more accurate ethnicity wouldn't hurt.

With Bale as the star you could have an actor who is black/middle eastern. Edgerton is not famous outside of Australia.

The star of Gods of Egypt is not that famous either besides for being in that crappy 300 movie.

I dont know mate, Edgerton isnt DiCaprio famous but he's pretty famous. He's been in a lot of movies. Ned Kelly, King Arthur, The Thing, Warrior, Animal Kingdom, Smokin' Aces, Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby, Black Mass.

And saying Gerard Butler is not that famous either is strange. He's a pretty big movie star??

I just don't get this argument. Either people are saying Egerton is the lead in the role which is why he was picked because he's white and well known, or he's not the star and therefore it doesn't matter that he's white??? If he's not the main star and therefore the movie's financial success doesn't depend on him, then cast someone more appropriate??

Im not having it both ways. There is this thing in Hollywood where you can in fact cast several star actors in the same film now. Amazing I know.

It's so great too cos now it's not just Matt Damon and a bunch of nobodies. Instead Matt Damon was in a movie with Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean and Kate Mara. Crazy I know.

I never said cast unknown Egyptians, in fact I literally said that only a few posts ago. I mentioned the fact that they white washed a movie that could have used a varied base of actors, since one of the main defences of having so many white actors in high profile movies is because they "suit the roles better".

You're excusing white washing which is racist, so yeah, you are.

I've watched that movie once and thought it was average, but I just watch movies for what they are and generally I like watching movies with well known actors otherwise I struggle to stay interested or sit there and say "this'll be good because it's go so and so in it".

Yes I did because it's Star Wars and I love Star Wars. And the actors who were in it who I had no idea about before seeing it were terrific and now I'll watch films with them in it.

I said generally I like to watch movies with known actors, some movies will pop up and surprise me time to time.
