Tickets for the one and only MMF go on sale today.*

Web site - Meredith Music Festival

*except if you want to use Ticketek in which they have no idea about tickets going on sale today

Tickets are broken up into sperate Friday night and then Weekend tickets. if you want to go to the whole thing, you need both a Friday ticket and a weekend ticket. You can't just get a Friday ticket.

If you've been you know how good this festival is.

Last years was a cracker. Beautiful weather on Friday as we drove over from Melbourne. We got in, setup the tents, had a few cans and then sat in cars as 45 minutes of torrential rain swept the valley followed by more rain for several hours, rendering it a bog for the rest of the weekend.

The plan is simple. Get your esky, fill it with cans, grab a rug and some chairs, stake out a spot in front of the stage and sit back, get ********ed and watch some fine bands.

This year, the lineup was released this morning on RRR (Breakfasters) but I missed that. It's also being released by Myf on JJJ lunch today and then via mailing list in the arvo followed by website tomorrow.

Nah, although it would be the ultimate dream.

I already have my tickets.

I have heard the list of the bands courtesy of JJJ, but the ones that I remember are:

Wolfmother
The Mess Hall
You Am I
Airbourne
Cut Copy
The Avalanches (DJ set, presumably the doof doff after the last band on Saturday)
The Next Men (English dance dudes after Avalanches)
Billy Childish and The Buff Medways
Okkervil River
Clare Bowditch and The Feeding Set
Architecture In Helsinki
The Grates
Stephen Malkmus (ex - Pavement) and The Jicks

and there's others that I don't remember or have never heard of....

Wolfmother two years in a row hey ?

They don`t usually do that . Hope they get a better timeslot than last year
Nobody knew who they were last time and they'll also have a new album out by that stage.

When they started their 1pm set, there was hardly anyone there and as it went on, the crowd just got bigger and bigger.

Coz we were all stuck outside on the f..ken roadside waiting to get in ...probably 2 1/2 , three hours out there , it was a joke .

Got to Meredith about 12 thirty , reckon we were in there about 4 . Bloody nightmare . Hope they have fixed that little probby up . Asides from the fact they let 5 times more people in than they used to .

Got to say , i am not exactly wettin myself over that line up .. or am i just getting old ?

You am I .... Meh , maybe if he grew his hair agian and only played "Sound as Ever" and "Hi-Fi Way"

Bugger... after going nine years straight from 1995-2003, I'm now living in WA. That already looks like a cracking line-up, no doubt with more acts to be announced. Theres also a secret band playing.... jeez I miss Meredith.

They said on the website they've put in a second driveway to allow people in quicker.

The Bell Rays are the other nomination I've heard for the 'mystery band'. Personally I feel it's a bit cheeky advertising a 'mystery band'. Tell us who it is and then I might think about going. Overall the lineup doesn't interest me enough to make the journey this year.

I'd be pretty happy with Turbonegro also, although my mail is that they're very unlikely.

White Stripes would be awesome. They would have to put some sort of big screen across the stage because of they just put out a microphone stand and a red drum kit, you would know straight away...

ALL TYPES OF TICKETS ARE COMPLETELY SOLD OUT

Every single ticket for the Fifteenth Anniversary Meredith Music Festival has been sold. That’s all Friday tickets, all Weekend tickets, everything. There will be no further allocation, no further sales, and no sales at the gate. All volunteer positions are also filled. Please don’t try calling stores because none of them have any to sell.

In 2004 Meredith sold out ten days before the event, this year it sold out ten weeks before the event. Apologies to any long time Meredith-goers who missed out, or really anyone that wanted to go and missed out… it’s a ticket buying frenzy out there.

There are still fifteen more acts to be announced. That will happen soon.

HOWEVER! Watch this space for news of a remarkable Meredith After Party presented in conjunction with St Jerome’s, featuring many of the local and international acts on the bill, including some not announced yet, all performing on the one stage in a wonderful outdoor location in the City of Melbourne that has never been used for live music before…taking place on the evening of Sunday, December 11th…details revealed shortly…

More bands announced:

SONS AND DAUGHTERS From Glasgow, Scotland. Impeccable pedigree. First time visitors to our shores. Who can be bothered describing what they do? Check any of the world’s best music press if you want descriptions. “think Nick Cave throwing knives at Johnny Cash” say the NME. Throw in a teaspoon of The Cramps’ harnessed hotness, and a suggestion of the Violent Femmes’ better gothic leanings, but female. And silkier and poppier. With mandolin. I knew I shouldn’t have tried to describe it. Album of the Year according to one national Australian broadsheet. Feted in certain circles the world over, and rightly so. Classy, glossy, sexy, punky, traditional, accomplished, exciting in every sense. And good live. Coupla sons, coupla daughters. You’re the voice.

THE KILLS From America and from England. They’ve been to Australia before. One American girl, one English boy. Kinda dirty groovy sexy arty rock. Raw and bare. They’re lifers. It’s a whole world they’ve created. They are fascinating. The latest album NO WOW traces the lineage from CBGBs to Studio 54, the NYC years when punk turned into disco. Theres a VU drone goin on, but it’s got a new skin and a drum machine. They recorded it in a ghost town. We are delighted and privileged to have them on the bill. Get whacked. Saturday afternoon.

FLAHERTY CORSANO DUO Free jazz strikes at Meredith! From New England in America. Two musicians dedicated to the promise and purpose of free improvisation. Cosmic and complex. We all know Meredith loves a spirited instrumental act. While Paul Flaherty continues his 30 year reign as the most under heard, well known, floor dropping white bearded alto-saxophonist wizard, Chris Corsano has been breaking into the big time by assisting on recordings and performances by such hipsters as Six Organs of Admittance and Sunburned Hand of Man. We might even make a little stage in the middle of the crowd for this one. All hail letting it rip.

KING MARONG AND SAFARA King is from The Gambia, West Africa, and now resides in Melbourne. This performance will feature the cream of the West African music community in Australia. Dynamic tribal rhythms and visually stimulating dance routines specific to Senegal and The Gambia. We went to see them play in a bar. It was going off. It’s full-on. It’ll go off at Meredith. The skill, the joy, the intensity…some of the more astonishing dancing you’ll see anywhere…check it out. Lunchtime Sunday.

CITY CITY CITY - Speaking of instrumental acts, this extraordinary Melbourne million-piece used to be one. They sing a bit now. They are fantastically terrific. There's ******** going on everywhere, but often it all smashes together and builds up an overwhelming head of steam. Its wild, its restrained, its an intellectual argument that’s anything but circular - its like a krautrock extravaganza trapped inside Brian Wilson's body. We think Meredith will love them.

MATT WALKER AND ASH DAVIES need no introduction to long-time Meredithians. They played two of the all-time classic shows there, back in 1956 and then 1971, above sea level. They are B.I.T after some time seeing other people and have released their finest work to date. Its loose, its sublime, it’s an introspective part of your personality described back to you by instruments…like ruminating on some ambiguous memory for a while until it reveals into an epiphany…and you get excited…. man, some of those long, driving epics are as good as music gets. That’s why we like it. Matt Walker and Ash Davies are a reason we like music. Sunday morning. Morning glory.

PEEPING TOM You know how your mates have got a band but you never get around to seeing them cos you assume your mates band is somehow not as good as a ‘real’ band? Well we made that mistake. Then a couple of weeks ago we finally saw Peeping Tom. Within the first 2 minutes they were on the bill (assuming they wanted to be). We had grins from ear to ear and the pots were flying down. They are the real deal. Its heavy. Its slow. Its phenomenal. Its hard driving grooves mounted by phat phat riffs. And there is simply no better way to start The Whole Fifteenth Anniversary Edition of The Meredith Music Festival than with these blokes at Beer’o’Clock Friday. Look into their third-floor window.

Got tickets all over E-bay already

To full (Fri,sat.sun) tickets with two full days left on the auction going at the minute for $590 .... yes you heard right ...$590

f..ken disgusting

We should all start pestering our local MP`s about getting rid of this blight on society called "scalping"

It should be criminalised ... simple ... and if people have genuine reasons where they need to off-load tickets then the promoter should have a buy back system at a reduced rate of say 70-80% percent of original cost and then re-sell them

(steps off soap-box)

It is just wrong
It's one of those things we have to worry about now.

Take the BDO for example. Do you wait for the 2nd announcement to see what bands get announced or do you get a ticket straight away to make sure you get one and if you don't like the full lineup, just sell it on Ebay.
