Dal Santo has exercised the trigger clause in his contract to remain with St Kilda, but the Kangaroos are desperate to bring him to Arden Street as the final ingredient of their midfield.

Im hoping it's just a misunderstanding by the reporter. Cause surely triggering the clause would of been bigger news.
His manager spoke this morning on SEN during which he indicated that the clause was yet to be activated.

Would think it unlikely as the saints would do better not activating it.

Yep that's what I thought, and also how I saw it.

They'll get far better value from Free Agency compensation + a good deal on Delaney

i like north supporters, your more rational on BF than some (dons, pies and blues top the list) however the news on Montagna should be taken with a grain of salt, all the report said was saints would trade him if the offer was right, GROUNDBREAKING reporting by Mr.Ralph

if you guys get Dal which i hope you do compared to Richmond, Dons or GCS i hope you guys respect his game, ges a great leader for younger guys and always an unselfish player.

even though supporters overvalue their players i even feel like 2nd rounder and deleany just wont cut it from a saints persepctive, i feel we will hardball and force a third team to come in something on the lines off. (also look for saints to try and trade up for instance swap our 4th rounder for your 3rd or vice versa, saints have continually shown to try and incorporate this in our current rebuild model.)

saints out: dal (perhaps swap picks)
Saints in: delaney, 2nd rounder North, 2nd/3rd rounder team X

North out: Deleany, Player Y, 2nd rounder
North in: Dal

Team X in: Player Y
Team X in: 2nd/3rd rounder

anyways I'm a fan of North ad hope if anyone takes our champ then its you guys.

Considering we also want a 2nd rounder for Delaney your proposed deal has North giving up 2 2nd round picks and a 2nd or 3rd rounder from another club for a 30 y.o. Dal Santo is a great player but no way is he worth 3 2nd rounders. I would struggle to think of a single player on the St Kilda list that would be worth 3 top 30 picks

NDS clause can be terminated by mutual agreement.

As mentioned the deal will likely be:

Saints get: Luke Delaney, NMFC 3rd pick (in the 40s), AFL compensation pick (end of first round)
North get: Nick Dal Santo, retain 2nd round draft pick

Elsewhere, Elliot Yeo wants out of Brisbane, likely to head home to West Coast:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...-out-of-brisbane/story-fn69a32t-1226722954595

BRISBANE midfielder Elliot Yeo has officially told the Lions he wants out and is keen to be traded to West Coast.
The Lions are trying to hang onto seven players, with the No.30 pick from the 2011 draft determined to be traded home to Perth.
The Herald Sun understands West Coast is keen and will likely do a deal for the promising midfielder, who played 19 games for the Lions this year.

If NDS were 25 yes, but not a chance of that happening imo.

Saints are far better off looking to use the FA compo for the best deal. End of first rounder for a 30yo, freeing up cap space and getting Keys for a swap of 3rd round picks would be a great for StKilda. We'd get a lot more for Keys elsewhere.

Saints get: Keys, pick 20ish and Norths Rd 3 pick

North get: NDS and Saints Rd 3 pick.

A good result all round. Any talk of giving up our second round pick or player of equal value is crazy talk (which btw is worse the than getting the compo pick).

firstly steven would be worth well more than 3 top 30 picks but thats besides the point..

North are not giving up as much as u think. you part ways with your 2nd round pick and a dispsoable player like maybe a harper (just a throwout name) for a 2nd/3rd and then flip that pick to saints..

the part about saints flipping 4th's for 3rds as i said is vice versa, it could be the other way around and give north 2picks in the 3rd round so it would look something like

round 1 :father son own pick
round 3: own pick
round 3: saints pick (very high 3rd)
round 5: own pick
etc..

If we could manage to get NDS as a FA and swap both our 2nd and 3rd rounders and Delaney for their 2nd and 3rd rounders I would be over the moon, and I think it would be fair on all, they are getting a future AA fullback and we are getting a past AA midfielder.

Lol, Harper is far from disposable. In fact, I doubt any of the players North would be willing to trade (Greenwood, Anthony) would net us any more than a 3rd rounder. Also, North are only going to use 3 picks this year and we don't have any rookies to upgrade so anything to do with us receiving a 4th or 5th rounder is likely irrelevant.

Like others have said, whatever we give you it's (more than likely) going to be less than what you'd get from free agency compo so I just don't see any sense in making a trade for NDS.

You guys need to undertand saints are letting Dal walk into FA. they not risking the evaluation of the AFL determine how much compensation we are getting, part of the evaluation for compensation is on the length of the contract and dollar value of the contract a huge unknown for a 30 year old dal so i feel saints will do the sensible thing and just determine their own fate.

also saints don't actually have to trade dal, i dont think its a fire sale on him, we are in the box seat with North, Tigs, Dons, GCS all asking about him. We will hardball and thats why i feel north will have to give up a disposalabe player to get the deal done. I REPEAT DAL IS NOT A MUST TRADE he is a trade chip, something which is forgotten in the media and BF, we will not settle just for the sake of it

Fine, but don't expect two long term players and a second round pick for Dal Santo and a third round pick. It's just not going to happen.

heres a question for north people

is deleany really a required player on the list with the defensive unit you currently have or is he just a luxury?

Yes but you do desperately need a tall defender so it's not like you hold all the cards. The saints will be able to get a good estimation from the AFL on what pick they will get and will either let him go as a free agent or keep him for next year. If they, like you, think that he is worth 3 top 30 picks then they will most definitely be keeping him and paying that 600k salary for next year because NO club is going to give you that much.

Would the saints entertain greenwood? Greenwood delaney and a 3rd rounder? Greenwood is a good solid player but given our inside stocks there isn't really a place for him in the team.

He is a luxury, however one that we have offered a contract to, and one that other clubs, other than St. Kilda, are keen on. If we let him go we will need to get in another KPD, be that a mature VFL type or a young, developing player.

So, as he is someone we want to keep, someone other clubs really want and he wants to play AFL footy, we will look to get the best deal possible if he leaves. If that means that we let him go cheap if it enables us to get NDS via FA then there is value in that for us as we keep our second round pick. If not, whoever wants him will have to pay the market value.

North would be paying overs and while I get Harper is a random name we'd certainly not be throwing him in as steak knives.

I'll be confused if both parties don't get this done via free agency. If NDS is as valuable as you claim still then your compensation should be appropriate.

Fortunately this works both ways, for the right pice hes worth looking at as a 30 YO but if the price is high hes easy to overlook as well.

Would be nice if it worked beneficially for both clubs but no loss for either if it didnt happen.

Prety confident Blues or Lions would pay a 2nd for Delaney anyway.
