Monroe is kidding himself right now
He and Bledsoe are stuck between a rock and a hard place because their respective teams both have more than adequate cover/investment at the positions which they play - something which could not be said of say, Hayward at Utah.
Coupled with the fact that Monroe's old-school game has deficiencies and Bled has knee issues, it probably means that their managers have blown a little too much smoke up their tunnels if they think they're 'automatic' max players.
I still think the Celtics should try to put a package together for Monroe, they've certainly got the pieces to make it worth Detroit's while.
Obviously the deal isn't final yet, but surely Minny could have got one of Thompson and Waiters and a pick too?
Personally I wouldn't bother if I were them.
Thompson is of marginal value and due for an extension in the next 12 months, and Waiters sounds like the second coming of J.R. Rider. Neither are going to lift you out of the 30-40 win quagmire, and their trade value ain't high at present.
And yes getting Wiggins is probably already one of the best returns a team has ever received for their abandoning star, but still. What if Wiggins turns out to be ordinary in the NBA? There's not a lot else there to work with. Bennett I have no faith in.
Bennett's either going to be flipped immediately or given a chance to show something - he's more the steak knives than anything. The future pick is the second major carrot in the deal, especially if it's Miami's.
