OFFICIAL "THE TOUMP" ALERT

Early ticks, bargain buys and big disappointments for all AFL clubs over past 10 national draft years

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/ear...s/news-story/d5efb05b19e14473a3a7268f0849a653

Biggest disappointments: Two words: Jimmy Toumpas (Pick 4, 2012). He was taken before the likes of Jake Stringer, Jack Macrae and Ollie Wines. Toumpas was traded to Port Adelaide after 27 games in the red and blue. Honourable mentions go to Lucas Cook (Pick 12, 2010) and Cale Morton (Pick 4, 2007).

I think we would have left the top go emotionally had he not shat all over the club in his pressers at PA. It was a nice "I'm only ship because of THEM! But here I can Flyyyyyyyyyyh!
Pretty sure he took the blame himself. Did you even listen to any of them? I remember him saying how good Dees were to him, and took the responsibility for his lack of development on himself. I personally think he should take 40% and your mob the rest. People saying Viney done ok are full of it. His Dad works there FFS. What are they gonna do???

It's amazing but I didn't like him from when he was drafted. Just did not like the cut of his jib. Had some sort of air of a sense of entitlement or something about him. I remember seeing Salem and thinking ok he looks like he has a good head on his shoulders let's just hope he sticks around. Well he stuck around and he still is a great prospect... but with thyroid problems. How MFC can you get??
This is wrong on so many levels. He is a level headed kid from interviews and stuff I've seen from Draft night to Pressers in PA colours.

Melbourne have developed a bunch of good players since Toumpas came to the club, he's s**t because he hasn't worked hard enough and shits his pants on the regular. None of that is the fault of the Melbourne football club.

Nobody has denied the shitstorm that was MFC development.... problem is Toump missed most of it. I definately saw one of the Port media blitz that had Toump knocking the training standards of MFC and then pointing out how he's looking forward to improving now he's at PA.

I've got nothing personal against him, you're right, he seems like a good bloke. But this "wash the Melbourne off him" malarky is hilarious, hasn't worked for so many blokes we offloaded. And Port's media blitz took it into the official line.

Completely debunks your theory. Has never knocked Melbs the Club or the City. Puts his hand up. Now you show me where he has blamed anyone but himself.

He should have been defected when you first sent him over the border. We don't want him anymore and he still chose to stay in SA rather than head over and play in your state!

Or no one wanted him over here because he's s**t

Your insinuating that his dad who is apart of the recruitment team gave preferential treatment to Viney... idiot

Thanks for stopping by to share your thoughts, Johnny.

Just curious - when you recently created your account for Bigfooty and you were thinking about what user name to go with, what was your rationale John? Did you pretty much go "well, I support Port Adelaide and obviously I'm a star, so..."?

I read it as Pornstar...

He reached his peak when he was 18 and was never going to consistently translate his form at AFL level.

If he was any good and Melbourne were so bad with him he would still be playing for West Coast.
Maybe, watts was softer to begin with an we stuck by him .. watts obviously showed he wanted it more at training

Even though the training standards at your club might have been sub par for a period of time, I see that it didn't stop Nathan Jones from performing at a high level. I don't buy too much into this excuse of poor training standards. I think it is more like poor personal work ethic and preparation. I think even at its worst MFC would have provided a sound enough base for players to work off of. Some work, some don't. Some need to be coddled, and others just put in that work. I don't think there was ever a real knock on Toumpas training - from memory he actually trained ok at Melbourne, and had big wraps on his first pre season at Port. But I think Toumpas needs to put more time into preparation, he had hip issues prior to the draft, and never looked as though he had worked on his core at Melbourne, he clearly needed strength work (especially legs) at both clubs. He still looks to be lacking in quickness, and still looks to be easily pushed aside. I think that is up to the individual more so than the club. I am sure he has been told.

Obviously the majority of them still need high standards around them to copy though, we never had that
Jonesy ran his own race by the look of it and that's why he is captain
