Hunter:
There has been some movement from the NBA, obviously not enough.

The question is now how the player reps will respond next week?

(Won't say whether he'd accept this deal or not, hoping for a meeting with player reps on Monday or Tuesday)

Another 30 or 40 secondary issues that also need to be resolved. Among them are age limit, commissioner discipline, etc. Six pages presented by union.

Indicated to Stern that union needed time to review offer with player reps.

No time limit given on this offer, on the table until union accepts or rejects.

It's not the greatest proposal in the world but I have an obligation to at least present it to our membership.

Matt Bonner on why they have to wait 3-4 days for the player reps to meet, and not just do a conference call: "Feeling is it needs to be give and take, face to face."

Stern:
Attempted to meet their concerns as best we and the labor relations committee could.

Made revised offer on basis of a 72-game season starting December 15th.

Understand revised proposal will be presented to reps on Monday.

We really appreciate the effort of the executive board of the union in the meetings here.

Don't expect them to like every aspect of the revised proposal, and there are teams which don't support all aspects.

Q: Is this your last, best offer?
A: If this offer is not accepted, then we will revert to our 47% proposal.

Doesn't make sense to continue here because we have made our revised proposal, Billy said that if that's the case we will take the proposal to the player reps. This is the best attempt by the labor relations committee, and therefore the NBA, to meet the requirements of the union.

We're here, we've gone as far as the labor relations committee will go.

72-game season or no season? No.

We have done everything possibly, that we could possibly do given our joint goals.

I very much respect the way the union, its executive committee, our labor relations committee have approached this final stage of negotiations.

Most significant movement made in your revised proposal? There's so many, I wouldn't want to pick out one.

Silver:
Proposed 72-game season would require playoffs and finals to be moved back a week. Every day we adjust our projection for what the schedule would look like.

Acknowledged philosophical difference in the balance between player movement and competitive balance. Also acknowledged that some players will see that the changes are not in their personal best interests.

Summary:

NBA: This is the best we're going to offer, downhill from here.

Players: Not overly impressed by the revised offer, but we have to take it to the reps for appraisal.

No details of the offer were given by either side.

If it goes according to the NBA's plan, season will start December 15, 72 games, playoffs and Finals pushed back one week.

Okay, players have improved their deal through negotiations over the past few days. Earlier this week when Stern left his ultimatum it seemed like a deal for them to take as they werent going to get much better. And now with the knowledge that they could be playing a 72 game season in a months time surely they must accept.

Adam Silver pretty much nailed it on the philosophical differences regarding competitive balance and player movement. Then:

@DailyThunder
Dang, Adam Silver just brought it.

@KDtrey5
What did this guy say?

@AzazNYK
restrict player movement to a certain degree

@KDtrey5
Why can't players have freedom of movement?

To you, Kevin Durant, I say "SMH"

Several agents claiming that they have 200-plus signatures on decertification petition, and paperwork could be filed Friday.

That could be a huge timing error on their part I would think, as there's a 45-day negotiation period before a decert would become official. Filing on Friday would mean that period ends on Boxing Day. Hypothetical: nothing happens and the NBA provides a last-ditch proposal in the last couple of days. How many players would accept it in a desparation move given the timing (Christmas day potentially)?

love your work scully2folau!!
haha mate I think I'll have to impose a ban on myself for the back-to-back-to-back-to-back posts, especially given that little flurry was on company time... ;)

In other news, a December 15 start would mean players miss only one paycheque...

Stern seemed pretty persistent in continually mentioning Dec. 15 and "this is our best offer".

Larry Coon says he thinks the outcome depends on how it's presented to the players:

Last time they carefully laid out the reasons it was a bad deal. This time, if they go over it and say "this this the best deal we could negotiate. It's this or decertification... What do you think?" They take the deal. A yes from the player reps means it goes to a player vote.
Owners would also need to vote on it, however you can't see Stern offering something which he can't actually deliver...

The Boston ones.
Too true.

Sporting News' Best NBA City: Boston

1. It’s where modern pro basketball came to life.
Former Celtics coach and team president Red Auerbach once said, “The Celtics aren’t a team. They’re a way of life.” And Auerbach brought that approach to his team over the course of 56 years as coach and president. Sure, many opponents remember Auerbach for the arrogance of his victory cigars and his ability to fleece trading partners, but he was also the NBA’s greatest innovator. He was instrumental in integrating the league—he drafted the first black player, hired the first black coach and put out the first black starting five—but would later say that he didn’t care about the political or racial aspects of what he was doing, that he simply wanted people who would help him win.

In an age of offense, Auerbach recognized the benefit of a dominant defensive center, and he had one in Bill Russell. Also, it was Auerbach’s teams that first emphasized the fast break in the NBA, and he pioneered the concept of the sixth man, a role that got Frank Ramsey, Sam Jones and John Havlicek—and, later, Kevin McHale—into the Hall of Fame.

2. There are 17 banners.
No NBA city can match Boston’s 17 championships—the only franchise that comes close is the Lakers with 16 titles, but they won five of those in Minneapolis. Not only do the Celtics have the banners hanging in their home arena, TD Garden, but they’re hanging in the team’s practice facility in Waltham, Mass., too. For today’s players, that’s both humbling and motivational.

“It does make you realize that this thing with the Celtics, it has been going on a long time, and there is a tradition of winning here that you’re not going to get anywhere else,” current guard Ray Allen says. “You have to take that to heart every time you step on the court. You can’t really call yourself a Celtic unless you helped raise one of those banners.”

3. The past is kept alive in the present.
It is not unusual, when wandering around the tunnels of TD Garden, to bump into past greats like Tom Heinsohn and Cedric Maxwell, who are now team broadcasters, or stars like Russell, Havlicek, Bob Cousy and Satch Sanders. Over the history of the Celtics franchise, players who have performed in Boston are always welcomed back to the city.

“It is still special to be able to come in and be part of the team,” Havlicek says. “That was something Red believed in, and it is something that they still do now. When you walk on the parquet floor, you can still remember a lot of those great things that the teams accomplished.”

That's rubbish brah. If you pick up, walk off immediately. At least consume a greater beer allocation.

Just checking in for the new season and couldn't find any of the weekly threads.

How have the Heat been going so far?
The Celts still going well with their own big 3?
Patty Mills still tearing it up for Portland?

Can't believe I forgot about the start of the NBA season, so I'm a bit behind on things...Now I just need to find out where the NBA is being shown. Is ONE HD still showing games? Can't seem to find games on anywhere :confused:
A bit frustrating given that I spent the last of my savings on a new 60" plasma & DVR in anticipation of a cracking season.

(My housemate initially offered to pay for 47% of my new TV but I tried to talk him up to 52%. We settled at 50% each even though I didn't think that was fair).
