Which was more important, the home and away match between Hawthorn and Sydney in the final round of the season last year which decided the minor premiership and the order of the top 4 (and therefore led to Geelong coming up against Freo in the first week of finals and losing, and therefore decided the make up of the Grand Final), or Richmond versus Carlton playing off in a 5th vs 8th* elimination final last year?

Some H&A matches are more important than others. Some finals are less important than others. The first Showdown ever and the first Showdown at Adelaide Oval are more significant in the grander scheme of things than 2005's 'Who gets to go to Subi to get thrashed by West Coast next week' cup.
Yep that first showdown loss helped us to switch into gear culminating in the first of our two Premiership flags, if only history could repeat itself.

Drakes simple question would you rather have won both the first ever showdown and first showdown at AO or the 2005 final?
The first showdowns, in the overall scheme of things, meant zero. Winning the Showdown final meant we had a crack at the prelim. I'll take having a crack at the prelim every day of the week over winning the first showdown simply for bragging rights.

But yet you Crows keep insisting that it was better to not make the finals in 2007 rather than make the GF and get thrashed.

Hypocrites.

A simple question drcollossimo - you're sitting at the semi final in 2005. The first siren sounds to begin the match. Are you thinking to yourself "this is the biggest showdown ever" ... or "this showdown comes second to the first ever showdown" ?

Well given the mental damage it did to your club & being unable finish higher than 10th for the following 5 years, I'd say many Port supporters would've agreed :)

Squib! The first is the first there will never be another first showdown! But if your team ever picks it self up and stops cheating. There may be more finals!

In that case,I'd suggest your teams stops making prelim finals, they seem to be a real mental challenge that is damaging your club psyche.

Port supporter talking about another club's psyche :D Lol's were had :thumbsu:
You think that because you get off every night thinking about 119, that everyone else obsesses about it too?

Honestly, the only time I ever think about it is when Crows flogs bring it up for no reason whatsoever.

So its your psyche that is damaged, not mine.

I'm not talking about you personally. Talking about your club's psyche. Only now is your club seemingly over the events of 2007. But what a wasted 5 years between 2008-2012 :thumbsu:

2008-2012 was as a result of going too long with too many of the 2001-2004 veterans and neglecting development of the next group. Only just being fixed now.

Not 119.

Doubt it. Would imagine it had something to do with the mental state of the group after such a catastrophe. You can't go from the grand final to 13th within the space of 12 months and not be mentally scarred to some degree.

Havent been able to make a grand final since. Obviously some mental scarring there. ;)

How is it mental scarring after we WIN the premiership? LOL. We probably cared less considering we just went back to back :thumbsu:
Probably realised it was just a fluke and that you were never again going to be good enough to win another one. Hence the 15+ year drought and the recurring PF choking since then.

NB ;) means something.

There must be some reason why the Crows have not played in a GF since 98? It must be the continual scarring from not being able to win consecutive finals. How else how can you explain the chokes in the finals during the period 2005 to 2012?
