Injury The OFFICIAL Injury Updates thread - 2 weeks

“The main issue at the moment is we’ve got two separate programs, given we’re still in quarantine, so our three physios are in the AFL program from the weekend and won’t get eyes on him until we’re out of quarantine,”

This... does not seem right. Surely you just get Spicer to see a reputable physio outside of the club?
Says volumes🤦

Wait a minute - our injury list is not the worst in the AFL?

This data suggests our injury list is just a bit worse than the average.

Yeah, nice whinge.

The listing is very limited. For example, McGovern is part of the WC games missed and he was playing up until Rd 6 until injured on the weekend. In contrast, our best defender, Tarrant, hasn't played a game in 2021.

See the difference?

Hi. Captain Obvious here. It may be more that having so few key position players leaves us vulnerable to injuries. Two key forwards (one of whom has a long injury rap sheet) and four key backs (one of whom is 32) on our list and half of them are out. No disrespect to LMac and Jed but at least our cupboard isn't bare in their positions.

This whole Covid situation has given the club a much needed free kick.

I nearly opened a bottle of Champagne when Brady said our own medicos and conditioning staff can't currently diagnose the injured players.

We now have a faint hope someone competent might end up treating them.

Also - its 'games experience' missed, not just games so its not a true representation of selection impact.

Who is in charge of the medical department, that needs to be looked at.

We once had steve saunder who is an industrial leader back in 2015, we had one of the lowest injury list, now it's one of the highest.

It's the medical department, player development that have much more to do with winning flags than just players.

If we can always get our best players on park, then we would always be competitive.

The media has finally cottoned on that there is an injury problem down at arden street.

In an article from the AFL site by Riley Beverage-

The Kangaroos may only have 27 fit players to choose from this weekend, making David Noble's rough start even tougher.

This weekend? It's been like that for most of the year.

In all, by Sunday, only 21 of the 42 players on North Melbourne's list would have been fit and available for all seven games this year.

By no means is it an excuse for the club's winless start – Noble himself wouldn't want it to be used as one – but it's undoubtedly made what was already expected to be a tough period for the club all the more difficult.

21 in 42... that means 21 players have been injured at some point this year, *.
When do injuries become an excuse? When there is less than 22 fit players? There is another 16 odd games to go so we might yet get it to less than 22 available players.
