I'm also not sure why I've made this thread considering I won't be doing make believe trades and firmly believe we should hold onto pick 4.

My GWS trade above is only relevant if a bid comes for Green at 3 and GWS are allowed to move points around in trades before matching. I believe they can but I could be wrong.

The other trade I've suggested is similar to Maggsy's.

GWS: 6 + 20'r1 + 20'r3(North Melbourne)
ADL: 4

Keep 4 but offer 23,28 and 45 for pick 6 with a gaurentee not to bid at on green at 4 or 6

That is best case scenario, tell them we are bidding on green at 4, 6 is gone for them anyway in that case, may as well give them enough points for green for a pick 5 or later bid and get 6 for ourselves.

You might be right. There was discussion of changing the rules following that draft, but I can't find any evidence of that actually happening online.

If Melbourne bid on Henry at their 2nd pick, we could trade Picks 23 + 28 to Fremantle for 10. We get a second top 10 pick, Fremantle uses picks 22 and 23 to match the bid and then the leftover points would move Pick 28 into around Pick 16-17. That would give Fremantle a shot at drafting another local in Trent Rivers.

There was no need to change the rules.

The AFL have to approve every trade and each trade must be considered in isolation.

The ussue was the AFL didn't enforce their own rules because
a) they were ignorant / stupid
b) knew it would benefit both clubs in the long run, which is not considering trades in isolation

No doubt if they see us benefiting, they will decline one of the trades

I don't think you can trade with another club once a matching is needed. The trade needs to be done prior to Melbourne bidding on Green. Ie. During pick 1 or 2 process.

Have you got a copy of the relevant draft documentation as was pretty sure the club whose pick it was couldn't trade out their current pick once their selection was up... but the AFL do change the rules all the time.

Yes this has been brought up several times already. From everything i've read on drafting/bidding rules i can't see anywhere that says once a bid comes in you can trade your first round out of the draft, for example.
