This has been our problem for a very long time though.
Even in our golden age in the early 00s and WC 2006, our "skills" were still nowhere near the quality nations.

Secondly, we have no attacking flair or creativity, we are an incredibly boring side to watch because no one is good enough to take defenders on or pass through them.
Bleedingly obvious last world cup.
Very frustrating to watch

We operate on guts and determination?
Pretty much, always been fit, good sized, physical and strong. It can work for a period of time especially in defence we are pretty stout in the air too, and we have decent enough goal keepers especially at international level.

But eventually all the smaller, more nimble, more skilled nations always eventually play through us with passing. Being able to muscle them out only works for so long before we get outplayed.

Compared to who though? Technical European or South American teams would laugh at that comment.

Australian strikers are terrible.

My kingdom for an Archie Thompson
Agree, but they are better than what we have here. I'm just wondering why we didn't bring a Leckie, Taggart, Maclaren, Ikonomidis, Luongo, Rogic.
Surely 1 or 2 of them were available and all would have made a big difference in attack.

With a miss like that keeping the door open, and even though we haven't been flash - surely we're owed a bit of luck from the universe with a jammy goal to steal a draw and send us through to the quarters.

Pretty much a lifetime of disappointment following the national team - so at some point you get lucky

This is where I lose huge respect for this as an international sport.
It's embarrassing the injury faking time wasting that occurs almost every game.
