In 1989 Blight coached Geelong to a GF in his first season at the club. Geelong lost GF.
In 1995 Ayres coached Geelong to a GF in his first season at the club. Geelong lost GF.
In 2011 Scott coached Geelong to a GF in his first season at the club. Geelong????
.

Your doing it wrong :-P

The only team to win the flag under the current system with a lower combined margin against the same two Qualifying and Preliminary final opponents as their Grand Final opponent was Port Adelaide in 2004.

[/URL]

That's cos the two grand finalists didn't have the same opponents in 2001, 03, 05, 06 and 07...:p:o

In 01 and 07 the lower-ranked team won the semi (thus one top-4 team went out in straight sets), and in 03, 05 and 06 a team lost their QF and still made the grand final.

So half of your argument just went out the window:D

Umm....their entire argument was based around having the same opponents, their point is still very much valid.

Apologies Geelong fans, don't be too harsh on him.

How about the footy gods feel that 3 in 5 is a worthy return for a champion team that has been unparalled in its success and its team/club mentality has flown in the face of several difficult factors not the least of which is the changing of the game and competition to suit expansion and parity amongst teams....

Go Catters.....

Or....

In 07 my first daughter was born ( Sept 07)
In 09 she was 2, and my second daughter was born ( sept 09)
In 11, oldest is 4, youngest is 2. The 2 year old needs her second flag - in 11.

Of course if we dont get there, I have to hit the missus again for more kids....:p
Well in 2006, our first child was born in September. One year later, we won.

In 2008, our second child was born. One year later, we won.

Sadly, our third is due in November :(

I thought my man Mackie was playing his 150th as well.
That's a big concern.
Enright played his 150th game at GF. He wears No.44.
Mackie will play his 150th game at GF. He wears No.4. His 100th game was also a loss.
The good thing is Wojo is playing his 199th and Corey played his 199th at 09's GF.

2007 - Won the footy tipping at work

2008 - Lost the footy tipping at work

2009 - Won the footy tipping at work

2010 - Lost the footy tipping at work

2011 - Won the footy tipping at work by 8!!!

Ok, Ill weigh in with mine:

-Wifes cousin bought a membership every year we won a flag and not in 08 and 2010, he bought one this year.
-Brother-in law bought a membership in 08 and 10 but not 07 and 09 or this year.
-I bought a cats jersey in 07, 09 not in 08 and 2010 - this year I bought another one for my daughter.
-I am watching the GF at my mates place who is a Pies supporter, every game we watch cats vs pies at his they get flogged!! :D

I'll start.

Geelong has never lost a grand final broadcast on Channel 10 (and has never won a grand final broadcast on Channel 7).

On the flip side of that, Collingwood have never won a grand final broadcast on Channel 10 either.

Here's a few more:

- Our 96 point win in Round 24 was the biggest ever margin for Round 24. The previous best: 80 points by Hawthorn vs Essendon in 1991. Hawthorn went on to win the flag that year.

- The last 3 teams to finish the H&A season with the highest percentage have failed to win the flag.

- The last time Collingwood entered a grand final as the reigning premier was 1937. We all know who won the flag that year. ;)

Another personal one. I went to every losing Grand Final, and stayed home for every winning one.

I'm home this year.

2007: Was a chilly day so I wore my long sleeve Cats shirt under my Jumper
2008: Was a bloody warm day so I wore a short sleeve Cats shirt under my jumper
2009: Was f*cking freezing so I wore my long sleeve Cats shirt (umong other things) under my jumper
2011: WIll be cold so you can bet your ass I'll be wearing my long sleeve Cats shirt under my jumper

Either the long sleeve shirt is lucky or we like cold weather, either way its looking peachy

The last time Geelong played in a GF in the year of the Cat (Vietnamese lunar calendar, equivalent to the year of the Rabbit in Chinese lunar calendar) was 1963.

2011 is also the year of the Cat.

silly one
but Collingwood have played on the Saturday afternoon on four occasions throughout the year:
Magpies 155 v Power 80
Magpies 143 v Roos 56
Magpies 98 v Blues 79
Magpies 82 v Eagles 62

Geelong have played on a Saturday afternoon on five occasions:
Cats 127 v Roos 61
Cats 148 v Dogs 87
Cats 233 v Dees 47
Cats 86 v Swans 99
Cats 117 v Eagles 69

Now to make it fair and even with 4 games each, take away that Melbourne thrashing and replace it with the recent match....and the total score average equals:
Collingwood 119½ v Opposition 69
Geelong 119½ v Opposition 79

or

The omen that I like is the average score against the top 4 teams.
Magpies 62 v Cats 65
Magpies 105 v Eagles 53
Magpies 106 v Hawks 65
Magpies 53 v Cats 149
Magpies 82 v Eagles 62
Magpies 68 v Hawks 65

(Magpies 149 v Cats 53)

Cats 117 v Hawks 98
Cats 65 v Magpies 62
Cats 88 v Hawks 83
Cats 88 v Eagles 96
Cats 149 v Magpies 53
Cats 98 v Hawks 67
Cats 117 v Eagles 69

Because Geelong had to play one of the top 4 teams on one extra occasion, I'll reverse that round 24 'dead rubber' match so I can even out the totals:
Collingwood 89 v Opposition 73
Geelong 103 v Opposition 75

So is it possible this game does infact come down to only a few points? Those stats show that Geelong have been able to score more goals against the top 4 teams than what Collingwood have done and with injury clouds hanging over Reid & Johnson respectively, this game has draw written all over it

"Oh yeh", my bro was a mild Hawthorn supporter but loved me and my father's passion for the mighty Cats. He passed away on June 21st this year and today is his birthday, only a single day out from grand final day.
Hopefully he and Bobby Davis can help the boys out on Saturday arvo:thumbsu:

my sister had her first child, a son in june07, I had my first, a daughter in july 07 - cats win the flag
my sister had her second, a daughter in june 09 - cats take the flag.
Ive just had my second, a son in july 2011 - flag yet TBC

Not really an omen but anyway

I had a feeling we would lose in 08
knew we would win 09
Had feeling we wouild lose to the pies in 10

Predicted we would beat Hawks by 30 points in the first final
Predicted we would beat WCE by 40 in the PF

Had dream that we would win Tomorrow 97 to 56 and I have made that my feeling though in the dream Lonners did a sholder in the first minutes of play and Bartel kicked the first goal so I don't think that will happen

Was listening to Rex Hunt on MMM this morning and he did a mock commentry for tomorrow's game and he said 56 as well but it was for both teams..

So Cats by 40 Odd Hope I'm right!!

Every single time Malthouse came up against these blokes in a GF, pain followed. Let’s hope the trend continues tomorrow. :thumbsu:

Probably clutching at straws a little, but here's another couple:

- No team who has won a grand final replay has won the grand final the following year (Melbourne missed the finals in 1948, and North Melbourne lost the grand final to Hawthorn in 1978).

- Collingwood have not won a grand final in a year ending with 1 (lost to Essendon by 27 points in 1901, lost to Essendon by a goal in 1911 and lost to Carlton by 20 points in 1981). On the flip side, we're yet to lose a grand final in a year ending with 1 (beat Richmond by 20 points in 1931 and beat Essendon by 11 points in 1951).

Another personal one. I went to every losing Grand Final, and stayed home for every winning one.

I'm home this year.

Every GF I've attended since I was born we've lost. The two I missed in 1990 and 2010 we've won. I'm staying home this year.

This cancels out your omen :D
