Last final between Geelong & Fremantle was the Semi Final, 10 Sep 2010 at MCG:

Geelong defeats Fremantle 135-66.

Reckon the head to head stats over the last 5 years actually flatter Fremantle given the venues, actual match outcomes (Geelongs 8 wins to 2 losses ) and scores: http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_team_comparison?team1_id=10&team2_id=9

Don't reckon Round 1 this year will have much bearing. Geelong with 2011 GF hangover in Round 1 2012 is a very different team to the one that is ramping into September rampantcy.

I am quietly ....... nah noisily ..... confident about Geelong's chances next Saturday :)

That too, that most senior players didn't come to training until January. Some had niggling injuries, and no real form from NAB cup. So I don't take much from round 1
whatsoever.

The flipside to that though, is that they know months in advance when the season starts. If they aren't fit enough for Round 1 as a team it's their own fault, no one else's. Shouldn't be used as an excuse.

Walls has tipped Freo. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

and so too none other than Mr. D.King himself :thumbsu:

In 1952, when we went back to back, we lost only one home game - against the team we beat in the grand final the year before.

This year we've only lost one home game - against the side we beat in the grand final last year....

winty provides the cake...

And neither 'home' game was played in Geelong.

and then RR ices it!

i like this one.

I absent-mindedly wore a purple top to the 2010 SF, along with my Geelong scarf and copped a heap of grief from my mates about it. Half-jokingly considering wearing it again.

That's true Partridge, but you know when a team comes into the season with a full preseason, with something to prove. That ensures a good start, take Essendon, Carlton and Freo. All good examples. Freo on this occasion, missed the finals last year after a very good run the year before. Disappointed, they trained their asses off and it showed. We came unprepared and unfit. No excuse, just a good team came out firing, whilst another didn't.

That's ok, because remember - we're ready to play our best footy in September for the finals.

How did that work out?

On the eve of the '07 finals, Geelong lost its' AA key defender in Egan.

On the eve of the '12 finals, Freo lost their AA key defender in McPharlin.

In round 1, 2012, Freo got out to a 6 goal lead, Geelong lost by 4 points with Pavlic kicking the sealer.
In the EF, 2012, Freo got out to an 8 goal lead, Geelong lost by 16 points (add the extra 2 goal lead to the 4 point round 1 result to get the 16) with Pavlic kicking the sealer.

What does all this mean? Dunno, would like Freo to win it, a) because the Weagle supporters would go into meltdown for years b) it would be good to see them win something and c) for Ross Lyon to twist the knife into the hapless 'Aints one more time.

*too tough for them I think. They'd have to travel every single week of the finals. If they did, it would be better than the Eagles of the early 90s.

Roger Federer got bundled out in the US open .
I like to think our time at the top has mirrored Fed's career, because it does.

Well as someone put it, you cannot lose the players we have over two years and still be flag favourites. Whether we are playing for September or not, we made it.
You can continue to cry about it and act negatively, but losing the calibre of players we have over the past two years then blood another 10 new ones this year,
you'd be crazy it you thought we'd go deep.

Partridge, you have been pretty negative since the loss, just get over it. You love the club, just be happy with what we have done in 4 years and hope that the
development of the list can continue with a push for another flag in 2-4 years.

Not an omen but when Enright, on wing I think, very early in game, by himself, dropped a mark. I remember thinkng oh oh.
