Managed to convince the wife I could fly down for the game from Brisbane if I got a flight back the same day. With two babies that is worth its weight in gold.

Except that if 2003 is the comparison we'd be Collingwood and our opposition would be Brisbane.

Not sure if I follow you?

In 2003, a Collingwood player won the Brownlow and they lost the grand final to a team that had won its third flag of the modern era.

This year, a Collingwood player won the Brownlow and they're up against a team chasing its third flag of the modern era on Saturday.

In 2007 the thursday before the GF I went to a lame work function at Sandown greyhounds and 2 days later we won the flag.

In 2008 It wouldnt have crossed my mind to head out to sandown park for the greyhounds all year letalone b4 the GF and 2 days later we lost the GF.

In 2009 we had the same lame Grand final function on the Thursday at Sandown greys and I went , 2 days later we won the GF .

Can any 1 guess where I am going this Thursday night ?

Every time I have bought a Grand Final Football Record we've lost. Got one from a newsagent as a kid/yoof in 89, 92, 94, 95 and then didn't in 2007 due to a heap of poor planning and wanting to drink...we won. 2008 I went and bought one to mark the occasion and we lost.

Safe to say I will not be buying a program this year.

Mate, it'll be a bumper edition, stacks of great info and stats!!

Piccies of all your favourite players

Only $10...a steal :)

PS enjoyed reading this read...we've got one on our board, equally amusing.

At least the right two teams are playing it off.

The premiership has never gone to the minor premier in consecutive years. Only 5 times since 95 has the minor premier won it: Carlton 95, Essendon 00, Port 04, Geelong 07, Pies 10.

I see a trend.

WC 06 and Geelong 07 may have something to say about that. There are also numerous other examples.

If you want to rephrase your question and include only a single team, Hawthorn of 88/89 say hi, and so do Essendon of 84/85, I can continue....

Sorry :o

SH*TSH*TSH*TSH*TSH*T Trying to remember what undies i was wearing in 07/08/09!!

for the love of god go to the greys

In 1989 Blight coached Geelong to a GF in his first season at the club. Geelong lost GF.
In 1995 Ayres coached Geelong to a GF in his first season at the club. Geelong lost GF.
In 2011 Scott coached Geelong to a GF in his first season at the club. Geelong????

Seems a bad omen. But luckily we have these precedents also:

In 1925 Cliff Rankin coached Geelong to a GF in his first season at the club in role of captain/coach. Geelong beat Collingwood in the GF.

In 1931 Charlie Clymo coached Geelong to a GF in his first season at the club. Geelong won the GF over the Tigers.

FWIW, Clymo did not coach at Geelong the season after, or coach at VFL level again. Very short and sweet career!

Anyway, here is hoping we are in for our third premiership under a first year coach, rather than our third runner-up.

You want an omen?

Round 8!

You want another that will smash you in the face, pick you up and throw you across the room?

Round 24.
Time will tell the significance of rd 24.

If we smash Pies, it will have been a significant trurning point.

If we get done, +/- easily, it'll be obvious that Pies did not come to play in rd 24 at all. I suspect that now, but as said, we'll know in 4 days.

This thread is awesome. Pies board has the same thread and its crap.

Omen imo.

I had a dream earlier this year that we were in the GF (not sure who against) and I was playing for the hoops, running down the wing with seconds left, down by a few points, when all of a sudden I was able to fly...went up 20 metres in the air where nobody could get near me and delivered a beautiful pass to Corey Enright 15 metres out from goal, who promptly hit the post...and we lost. After the game, Enright called me out for being soft, something like "I don't care if you can fly, that was soft"
Hilarious dream and I would be crushed if we lost that way, but I figured I would put it out there.

Also, I have been riding to work past Vic Park wearing my cats top every day this week (yes, even in this rain), each time proudly showing the spiritual home of Collingwood my Geelong colours.
Rain, hail or shine, I will be doing it every day this week, doing my part for the cats (Yes, I'm certain it helps...yes I'm insane!)
