I know Viagogo is around but it’s not always reliable but are there any other options?

The main difference is the latter clubs you mention did it organically over a long period of time and were not used as a tool to promote the states that fund them.

Nope. They just use their financial power to outmuscle the competition, just how they have come about the money can differ.
That's how Man Utd became the biggest club in the world, they had an excellent young group of players coming through right at the time money came into the game & changed it forever. It's how they managed to stay so dominant as well over such a long time, until a few other clubs knocked them off the perch

Agree with your point in general but the history of Real Madrid and Barcelona is directly tied to politics.

Real only became successful because Franco gifted them an all-star team in the 50's to promote his regime. And until they ditched UNICEF for Qatar, Barcelona were always the biggest link for Catalan independence and their fans continue to use their success to say * you to the rest of Spain.

Direct through the club's. And if money's not really an issue you can guarantee yourself tickets through a hospitality package. Got to the Merseyside Derby like that with no dramas

Get on the fan forums. Most will have ticket threads, or someone should be able to direct you to places (Facebook, twitter etc) where you can pick up spares at cost value.
