I liked Todd's suggestion of play offs for the 4th CL spot as well as for the final relegation spot. Creates more interest later into the season for more clubs.
And more games in already long seasons.

There's nothing wrong with the way it is now. If you finish 18th, you deserve to go down.

The PL plays 8 games less than the Championship. Should the Championship just have the top 3 go up?

Personally I think yes.

Disagree massively. You end up with a third of the division with nothing to play for with a month or 6 weeks left in the season which is just awful. Even if you just had 17th and 18th play off with the loser going down, it would add a lot more excitement for a single additional game (for teams that by and large are only playing 40-42 games in their season, not a ridiculous amount).

So what? Happens in every division. The majority of clubs will fall into the positions around midtable with nothing to play for a long way out.

17th and 18th would cause other problems. The last match of the season, they'd play no one so that they're fresh for this new relegation 'final'. That then potentially impacts other results and where teams finish.

But also, 18th doesn't deserve to stay up...

Change for change sake is rarely good.

So what? So.. that's bad? You want more jeopardy in leagues surely? Do you tune in to watch dead rubbers?

Why would they play no one in the last match of the season if they could get 16th and not have to worry about the play off?

It wouldn't be change for change sake though.

Take the 2020/21 season.

Sorry but Fulham don't deserve to stay up over Burnley based on a one off result when they've finished 11 points behind 17th.

Based on that table what makes you think Fulham would have beaten Burnley? If you think a one-off game would be too much risk for Burnley make it two legs home and away.

I think there's a lot of merit in it taking place and don't think it's something that should be automatically dismissed just because it's new.

Who knows. They drew with Burnley at Turf Moor during the season.

It's just completely unnecessary to me. They play a full season to determine their finishing position. Football doesn't need finals, they have cups for that. The unique thing about a football league is that there shouldn't be finals.

But it wouldn't be a final, 19th and 20th still go down, 1st-3rd still get CL. The 4th placed team has to play qualifiers to get into the CL, how is this any different? This is just another qualifier.
