What more did Haaland need to do?

Change his name to Messi. It's a media love award, what did you expect. There's a reason no one wins it outside of Spain anymore. (I realise Messi was in France but he was popular in Spain still)

Haaland? He was no chance, he didn't play at the World Cup. Best chances were Alvarez or Mbappe.

I agree with you but it shows how silly the award is.

He essentially is punished because of where he was born.

Well it's also just the ability to perform across a range of tournaments. For example not qualifying for the Euros in a group where they should have easily made it through has to count against him (and Odegaard) to some extent.

They finished behind the Netherlands and Turkey. Turkey and Norway are ranked right next to each other. Not sure it can be argued they should've made it through easily.

Not really my point though, once Argentina won the World Cup, it was always going to Messi. Haaland will never have that luxury. Will be similar to Lewandowski throughout his career where he'll probably be the best player in a given year but playing for a weaker country will come back to bite.

Euros? They finished behind Spain and Scotland. I thought this was judged on this calendar year.

Oh apologies, was looking at World Cup which now I realise makes no sense.

I'm coming off 3 hours sleep, very little is making sense to me right now haha

A random Odegaard mention in a Ballon D'Or discussion.
Bro is a washed up hack at a small club.

It was a discussion of their Euros qualifying campaign and the fact they're the two key players in that side. Not everything has to be about Arsenal.

Art Vandelay and Arsenal - a love story as old as time
Dissing Le Arse is never a part time job. It's an always thing.

I mean it kind of matters because the WC plays a part in this ballon d'or. The qualification period he was injured for parts.

This year I mean, he's scored 6 goals in 4 games, 5 against George and Cyprus but it would be like playing for a Championship side. That counting against him is poor form by anyone.

The Saudi’s aren’t having a great time of it lately. First Tonali and now Neymar’s ACL injury two months after giving him a 2 year, €300-400 million contract.

Got to say Al Hilal’s tweet about it is, well…

Surely you don’t use images of Neymar in pain? 😂

At least he gets March off again.

They just failed to qualify for Euro 2024 behind Scotland with a game left to go.

With Odergaard & Haaland pretty potent attacking options that has to be viewed as a pretty big failure.

With 16 UEFA teams getting a place at WC 2026 (3 more than 2022) they really should be qualifying unless the rest of the team are absolute spuds.
