The punishment should be during a game, but a double punishment sounds good too....blue carded during game, and then later upon panel review, a fine and/or suspension

They already have that.

How about using a match review panel to retrospectively punish obvious dives that get missed with yellows.
Not serious enough.
Firing squad.

First offence. Maimed with leg shot.
Second offence. Kill shot.
Third offence.. There are no Third offences.

What's awkward?
I was reliably informed on here that asking for clarification from refs was "ref sooking" and that certain managers were above all that.

ive been saying this for years ..it can’t be that hard to implement and will get rid of most diving.

Sin bin is a rubbish idea ..agree with Ange in that teams wil just waste time for the 10 mins player is off. Plus more stoppage to play on top of the VAR stoppages.

3 man panel, unanimous verdict required. Or 5 man and a 3-2 required. Simple really.

I believe the sin bin in rugby union is for 10 minutes of active playing time, so if there in injury or video review the clock is stopped and a player might be off the field for longer than 10 minutes. Wasting time doesn't work. But soccer has a different timing system where's there's no open view of which incidents are contributing to the added time. I doubt that's going to change any time soon.

Wasting time does work in Rugby, hence why they brought in a shot clock for penalties/conversions and the ref is now quick to blow time up around scrums because yellow carded teams are experts.

So wasting time does work in rugby? Because they adjusted the laws and referee interpretations after teams tried to manipulate the situation.

Football has already clamped down on time wasting by yellow cards and extended additional time. But for the sin bin to work without time wasting there would need to be a further change so that each period of time that contributes to additional time is made visible to officials and fans, and added to the sin bin time. It's not going to happen.

Referee uses common sense in the Real Madrid vs Girona match. Why play any injury time when it’s 4-0 and risk injury? Final whistle blew at 90:20 despite two second half goals and a penalty right at the end (final whistle blew a few seconds after the penalty was missed).

Mid season rule change is worth asking about.

It all changed out of nowhere the week Luton scored that goal for a "foul" on the GK. If clubs weren't sent a memo explaining the change it would be silly not to ask
