As expected Jordan Henderson to be confirmed as the new Liverpool captain in the next few days. Well deserved, I'm sure he'll continue to set a fantastic example both on and off the field for his team mates in the coming years.

Have to agree, I'm happy for Henderson who is a solid citizen and I wish him all the best, but it does say a bit about the club at the moment IMO.

Sakho was PSG captain and comfortably our best defender, I would've given it to him, but don't think Rodgers fancies him all that much for some strange reason

If Milner hadn't just joined he'd be a better candidate for mine. Lallana was captain at Southampton, but unfortunately he's not the right man to captain Liverpool yet.

He stepped up enormously when given the role last season. Skrtel has only 2-3 more seasons left with us most likely so Hendo is a much better long term option. Never gets injured and will always be a starting XI player.

Rodgers does rate him. He misses too many games through injury to captain us unfortunately.

Nah he didn't until he had to play him coz Lovren's shit, even Toure was playing ahead of Sakho at the start of last season, blatantly being frozen out. Was a committee signing, of course, and Rodgers no like his committee signings unless they play well so then they become his signings

I agree but I think Sakho much like Hendo did, has worked to change his managers opinion. Definitely first choice now.

Compared to Gerrard I think anyone was going to be underwhelming to be fair! Not in the elite bracket of players but while it helps I don't think that's a pre-requisite for being a great leader. He's been a model of consistency for us over the last 2 seasons, he's very level headed, has the respect of his team mates and doesn't seem to have an issue with calling them out if they're doing the wrong thing on field - all qualities I'd have at the top of my list if I was looking for a captain.

He seems the sort of player who thrives with the added responsibility too, having stepped up markedly when handed the armband in Gerrard's absence this year.
