That doesn't say anything about a passport or if we offered him a contract.....working in Europe 10 years ago doesn't entitle your kids to a passport. There seems to be a couple of complaints a year about City (from outside of Europe). He's not even 16 yet ffs

If he doesn't have a passport it won't be too hard to prove, and we'll be punished for it. Simple as that. But the fact we've signed him, you've made an offer (confirmed by him) suggests it's all above board. The couple of complaints each year seem to come from United, and consist mainly of "wah, wah, player X chose them instead of us".

City were accused of signing a 13 year old non-eu player last month and are being investigated by FIFA. Can't always blame United mate...

I did say the majority, not all. But that's two you've cited, one which wasn't registered at the club until he was 16 (within the rules) and one which United tried to sign themselves. Beerman is an EU player and by all accounts Garre is too.

Shock, horror.

If we get found guilty of one or both I can understand the discontent. But for now, all it seems to me is salty tears.

This is the exemption that applies to both imo.

b) The transfer takes place within the territory of the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) and the player is aged between 16 and 18. In this case, the new club must fulfil the following minimum obligations:

i) It shall provide the player with an adequate football education and/or training in line with the highest national standards.

ii) It shall guarantee the player an academic and/or school and/or vocational education and/or training, in addition to his football education and/or training, which will allow the player to pursue a career other than football should he cease playing professional football.

iii) It shall make all necessary arrangements to ensure that the player is looked after in the best possible way (optimum living standards with a host family or in club accommodation, appointment of a mentor at the club, etc.).

iv) It shall, on registration of such a player, provide the relevant association with proof that it is complying with the aforementioned obligations;

c) The player lives no further than 50km from a national border and the club with which the player wishes to be registered in the neighbouring association is also within 50km of that border. The maximum distance between the player's domicile and the club's headquarters shall be 100km. In such cases, the player must continue to live at home and the two associations concerned must give their explicit consent.

The question with Beerman was that there is a bit of doubt as to whether or not he moved to us at 13/14. He wasn't registered with the club until he was 16. Brahim was the same, I think we signed him as a 14 year old but he didn't play an official game until his 16th birthday. Garre isn't coming until he's 16 so as long as he has his passport (why would the MEN bring it up if it was not relevant) he's got no problem.

Confused (in a way) why Mooy chose Man City. There's the obvious connection and maybe there are background deals done for a loan deal in Europe somewhere already done but he surely can't be thinking he'll be getting into that squad anytime soon. After all the talk of how man clubs were after him it just seems like a bad move, career wise.

He's not signing with any intention of playing with Man City.

It is a terrible move.

No it isn't. He's going to a club with a lot of connections in the transfer market, and can get him a good loan move.

That's what I was getting at, why put another obstruction in the way of playing?
E.g. If Newcastle wanted to sign him, why not go straight there instead of having to rely on a third party to try and get you there. If you believe the hype he wasn't short on quality offers.

Because Newcastle don't have first hand knowledge of his playing style and know what to expect from him, Man City do as they're owned by the same group. They will be able to fit him into a club that will use him in the right ways, and if things aren't working out, they can cancel the loan and send him somewhere else. Less risk for the player.

This is a new one. So Clubs are buying players now due to their expertise in knowing other clubs???

For him I think he gets the security of a contract without being locked into a club that isnt working for him.

For us I suspect the loan fees over three years will cover the transfer fee. And who knows how he will valued with another year of European football under his belt.

For Melbourne City I suspect they've got more from us than other clubs would have been prepared to pay.

Thats all on the assumption he's not going to spend the season with us.

This is some almighty attempts at spin going on.

If he doesn't get a chance to play at City then obviously they have either bought him to try and make a profit (un-bloody likely) or they are shifting money around between their clubs as they have set themselves up to do, in order to avoid various rules about salary caps.

He was never going to stay at Melbourne City, so salary cap isn't really an issue there.

There is no salary cap in the premier league so not an issue there.

Don't play dumb. There are rules in regards to the A League clubs and their turnover and expenditure. Big money in allows Melb City more room to spend.
