AFL players get paid full match payments as well as contract amounts when they do in-game injuries.

As I know a few marginal players that have done knee's, the upside is they get paid as if they've played every game for the year. For second contracts it's usually in the $3500-$5000 a game region ontop of their salary

moomba a couple of articles on the balancing act that is youth football, in light of the JPT trial. One from a Liverpool focus and the other Spurs.

Sort of gives an idea as to the reasons why a no answer may be reached.

Interesting stuff. I get the feeling that the league didn't bother asking the clubs involved, just assumed that they would jump at the invitation. I'm disappointed we won't be involved, I get the resistance from the lower league but I reckon a lot of lower league players would love to test themselves against some of these kids. And I think people underestimate the lower leagues thinking it will just end up being two academy sides in the final.

Another season, a bit more consultation before going in with the big announcement and I reckon we'll see a bit more take up next season.

Really interesting interview with Agger at the Guardian.

This on Rodgers does not surprise me.

Brendan Rodgers

Agger believes their relationship broke down on the day of the game against Southampton on 21 September 2013 when Agger played despite an injury and was at fault for Southampton’s goal.

“After the game he did not speak to me. Something went wrong. I was the first to admit that it was my fault. I apologised but as one of the physios said there was no need to apologise as the other 50 times that I had said that I was ready and played, even if I wasn’t fit, it had been fine. In those games one couldn’t see it but then there was this game, where I could not keep track [of my player].

“Maybe he felt that I wasn’t good enough and that Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Touré and Martin Skrtel were better then me. Then fair enough because the most important thing is for Liverpool to win football games. That’s the most important thing for me too. But in 42 days I went from being first choice and the club’s new vice-captain to be fourth choice centre-back. So I have thought a lot about it.”

Things came to a head again when, according to Agger, there was a heated conversation between him and Rodgers at half-time against Swansea City on 23 February 2014. Rodgers was criticising the two central defenders, Skrtel and Agger, for letting Wilfried Bony have too much of the ball.

“Everyone was quiet but I stood up and said: ‘How can you stand there and say that when we are only doing what you have been going on about all week.’

“Rodgers looked at me and muttered: ‘Whatever.’ I was substituted 12 minutes later.”

So the Premier League are getting tougher on dissent

The Premier League has announced stricter sanctions for players and managers who contest officials decisions.

In a move that is undoubtedly long overdue, the aim is to allow referees and assistants to do their jobs without being bullied, barracked, surrounded or intimidated by players and coaches during games.

Speaking about the plan, which aims to improve behaviour, they say, “This will focus on behaviour towards match officials, with the aim of reducing disrespectful conduct such as aggressively challenging decisions or running from distance to confront an official.”

This has been broken down into four areas.

Dissent towards match officials

Yellow cards will be issued to players who:

  • Show visibly disrespectful behaviour to any match official
  • Respond aggressively to decisions
  • Confront an official face to face
  • Run towards an official to contest a decision
Offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures towards match officials

Red cards will be issued to players who confront match officials and use offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures towards them.

Physical contact with match officials

  • A yellow card for physical contact with any match official in a non-aggressive manner (e.g. an inquisitive approach to grab the official’s attention).
  • A red card for physical contact with match officials in an aggressive or confrontational manner.
Conduct in the technical area

Behaviour by players and club staff in the technical area will be more rigorously enforced

  • The requirements of the Technical Area Code of Conduct will be more rigorously enforced for players and club staff.
  • Additionally, match officials will be required to retain professional detachment from players and club staff at all times.
Wonder how many red cards Rooney will get now?

Wonder how many red cards Rooney will get now?
none, because the man is untouchable when it comes to getting in officials faces and swearing anyways.

these will be remarkably inconsistent and much more leeway will be given to the bigger players because that's what happens regardless. they'll be hot on it for about 3 weeks (if at all) and then it will die off.

does waving for an imaginary card constitute disrespectful behaviour?

Oh I know he will get nothing - kinda my whole point.

He can do and say what he likes and it won't matter.

And completely agree.

Lincoln Red Imps, I think I speak for the whole Association Football Board when I say:

Finally managed to record the first ep of the new season for the City podcast, and actually managed to be quite positive for the new season:

That's hilarious. Why not just select one of the four people who entered the competition? Or were the club genuinely trying to gain revenue by running this competition and then the whole time they were going to pretend someone won it??
I'd say the cost of sending the winner was far more than what they got back in tickets.

Fair point. Dodgy ****ers. :D I'd love to know how a random fan figured out the fan that won was fake. They gave very little info. Just a common name and where he lived.
