those are staggeringly underwhelming numbers all round

Haha, says a lot about the Pom's national team really...;)

Point I was trying to make is there's a case Colback's probably been better than Barkley, Carrick and Delph (at least on exposed form) and yet that trio got called up (Barkley fair enough but Carrick's getting on and has barely played this season and Delph has been pretty underwhelming from the games I've seen him in).

I'm not too fussed either way - I'd rather our players avoid international apps where possible to reduce risk of injuries though would be nice for the Ginger Pirlo to get some national team recognition. Probably would have had his first cap earlier in the season when he got called up but got injured in the national team camp...

Haha I rate that. Never understood why neither of those 2 were ever knighted (though as a hard line socialist and a working class Scot I doubt Shanks would've accepted the offer!). Oh well, Sir Brendan will have to do.

The thing is, Liverpool would see this as a good thing. Having our 2 best managers knighted isn't an insult.

There was talk of Ryan Giggs becoming a "sir" but that quickly evaporated around mid 2011 for some strange reason.

he should just consider himself lucky he didnt become a 'daddy'

I am honestly miffed at how Becks hasn't been knighted yet?

Surely he'd be recognised for his services to football? (I know he has an OBE)

Thats about a billionth on the list of things I'm miffed about. Overrated clothes horse who made every club and even the national team all about himself. I'd see Rooney knighted before that knobhead.

To me he's never come across as anything other than a likable guy?
He's just a brand. A product. A marketing tool. Wouldnt surprise me if he doesnt actually exist in real life.

I think that's harshly dismissing his footballing ability and his achievements.

I recognise his achievements. Decent career with United where he wasnt in the top 20 United players of his era. Decent career at Madrid but nothing special. Decent career at Galaxy but more a marketing tool than anything. Nothing special at Milan. Marketing tool at PSG. One decent goal for England amongst numerous mediocre to poor performances and tournaments.

Its when people make his career something it wasnt that I don't recognise his "achievements".

We'll have to agree to disagree as I clearly rate his career higher than you do.

The English hate Beckham more than anybody else. He'll always be a poster boy for what could have been.

In reality, that era should be defined by the utter farce that was Lampard-Gerrard.

Meanwhile, Kevin Wimmer is apparently on his way for 4m from Koln. Never heard of him, but he's a 22 year old Austrian CB.
