In the same period LFC did:

04/05 - Winners
05-06 - Second round
06-07 - Runners up
07-08- Semi Finalist
08-09- Quarter finalist.

Liverpool were better in the CL for that period and your argument that it was because United were challenging for the league fails miserably because the 2 worst CL performances occurred when you were nowhere near winning the league.

Fails miserably? We won 3 premier league titles and in 05/06 we finished 2nd....is that not challenging for the league?

I'm pretty confident once our younger players mature we'll be back up there again. And Rodgers despite his faults is a good manager. Not many managers take teams from 7th to 2nd playing youngsters & Chelsea rejects.
