Don't think it sets a good precedent to just give players what they demand. If we start doing that we'll end up with a 230m pound wage bill like City does.
Just over £203m last season IIRC. Of course that includes league and cup bonuses so will probably be less again this season.

Was a bit surprised to read this from Carragher this morning.

"Are trophies more important than creating good memories? I would always argue ‘yes’ to that. During my career, I won 10 major honours but none of the Liverpool teams I played for is particularly remembered for being a top side.

If I’m honest, it annoys me, especially when I hear stories even now of how great Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle team of 1995-96 were or how thrilling the Leeds team were that reached the Champions League semi-final in 2000. Yes, they both played fast, exciting football but what did they win? Nothing."

Just comes across as sour grapes IMO from a man who had a hugely successful and decorative career. As he points out, his collection of honours from his career dwarfs the combined sum of what Leeds and we achieved in the times he refers to. Not sure why he would even make the point to begin with.

Heck, even Liverpool's heroic come from behind triumph in the 04/05 Champions League is probably a more lasting and well remembered memory for most neutrals than the style of play of either Leeds or Keegan's Entertainers.

So because Man U pay stupid wages, Liverpool need to also?

What other teams pay will influence what players demand unfortunately. Plenty if clubs will give Sterling 150k a week without thinking about it. I'm sure we'll reach a compromise somewhere in the middle.

Who? City wouldn't give it to him. You won't sell to United. Arsenal and Chelsea aren't paying it.

Maybe Real would but he isn't good enough for them yet.

Chelsea & City would give him what he wants in a heartbeat. Particularly City who need pace.

He'd be lucky to get 80k a week with how he is in his career at Chelsea.

Maybe in a few more seasons when he's proves himself

Nope. City wouldn't do it as it would mess up their wage structure and Chelsea don't need him.

You seem desperate to turn City into Liverpool Mk II. Benitez, Henderson, Sterling. Go away, leave us alone.

That's part of the reason we are in no rush to tie him to a new contract. Sterling at 35k a week is a bargain and delaying a new deal over wages costs Sterling more in the meantime. We'll agree a new deal over the summer for him that will be heavily incentive based IMO.

None of those 3 have ever been involved at Southampton.
More the fact that Liverpool are Southampton Mk. II already, so copying "Liverpool" makes you, in turn, Southampton Mk. III.

I got 90%. Mixed two up (and I'm pretty sure I knew which two when I submitted them).

May have been the same one as me.

Villa and Everton?
