Sturridge is a better winger than Welbz, he just dislikes playing there. 30 goals in 3/4 of a season is about what Welbeck delivers in two years.

Are you unable to comprehend simple English? Welbeck is the better winger of the lot, we play him on the wing 90% of the time so his lack of goals is offset by work rate, assists, link up play, pulling defenders wide etc

Just on Townsend, I've just gone onto BT Sport app to watch the footy (school holidays so kids own the tv) and the headlines is "Townsend: I've proved my critics wrong".

I do hope thats a misrepresentation because it signifies everything thats wrong with English players.

He really is the new Downing. Although this season you'd actually have to say Downing has been better.

I think I referred to him as a German Jordan Henderson at one stage (and I'm pretty sure moomba laughed at me!). You could see the quality in both of them though they didn't impose themselves on games as much as you'd like, Hendo's come a long way since those days, what do you think prevented Holtby making the step up?
Think it's above his shoulders to be honest. Fallen out with quite a few managers throughout his time

Lol @ all the journos coming out and attacking Sterling for his comments.

How dare people want more money when negotiating contracts.

No one cares about that. But when he comes out and says he's hurt because people think it's because of money? He's proving it is exactly about money.

How is it proving its about the money?

Journos are full of double standards on this though.

Next time Liverpool tries to buy Southampton, or United goes for the next Zaha or Powell, no-one will talk about the big payrise, it will all be development, and ambition and taking the next step in your career.

I still remember when Rooney was leaving Everton, the prevailing opinion in the press was that he would be doing himself a disservice by staying.

He should have taken a 65k pay rise if it was about money. And Ayre has lost the plot offering him that much. It shows how out of touch they are with Sterling and they're trying to shut him up by throwing cash at him.

Welbeck. We all know Townsend is a decent player who hasn't put it together. Arsenal fans genuinely think Welbeck-Sterling-Rooney will be England's best front 3 haha
England's best front three would be Rooney-Sturridge-Sterling with Kane first cab off the rank.

Because he's asking for more than what Liverpool have offered.

I'm not sure you know how negotiations work if that's the conclusion you're drawing from that.

It was said Liverpool offered 100k and his management asked for 140k. They couldn't agree so they put it off for now. That's what ADL (I think it was him?) has said.

What am I missing?

Nothing. That's the actual story although apparently some here are personal friends with Sterling and know that "he doesn't like liverpool and/or his team mates". Even though his management team were happy to sign a deal at 140k / week. Must really hate it there.

So if I offer to sell you something for $x and you come back saying that's too expensive you'll only buy it for $y, I would be correct in accusing you of not liking said object and just being out to save a buck?

I'd still like it but you'd be correct in your second assumption.

Can you use the Sterling example with your point? I'm not sure I really understand what you mean.

Oh. I don't believe that. But I do think he comes across as money hungry, despite him wishing not to.

So if I offer someone $10 an hour to work for me, and they then ask for $30 an hour, I could accuse them of not wanting the job and just being all about the money? Perhaps what I'm getting at will be clearer to you.

Why cant it be both?

He doesn't want 100k a week in a team that has less chance of winning trophies. If he's not going to be playing champions league football/competing for trophies then it makes sense to want more money to stay.

Maybe he would accept the same offer in a team that's better placed to deliver what he wants?

"I just want to take the time to think about what I've achieved in my career so far, where I need to go and what I need to do to get better as a player," he said.

He might be happy to go to Man City and earn 90k a week for instance, since they generally actually win things.

If I have a job I'm not too keen on doing I'll ask a higher rate. If I miss out then I'm not too fussed, but every now and then someone says yes and I just have to suck it up.

Sure, but when you have other opportunities and employers quite keen to have you and the job there is a lot more enjoyable, or the wage offer is a lot higher, to remain at your current employer you'd want some sort of incentive, wouldn't you?
