Sure, but when you have other opportunities and employers quite keen to have you and the job there is a lot more enjoyable, or the wage offer is a lot higher, to remain at your current employer you'd want some sort of incentive, wouldn't you?

I only work contracts so doesnt really apply to me.

But in the past I've taken big paycuts to work in a "better" job. I have ended up regretting it at times but for me you end up spending so much time at work, you really need to be happy to go in each day.

Sterling's management team have already said they are happy with 140k a week and were prepared to sign a new deal under those terms. We aren't and don't want to be caving into demands from footballers. We're also negotiating with Hendo who has turned down 80k a week.

Pretty good incentive for him to tie up a new deal ASAP as he currently earns 35k / week.

Further to this Sterling's old management team are entitled to commission on any deal he signs before 1 July this year (he changed management mid season). Makes it likely any new deal will be signed after 1 July.

Bit of a leap at this stage to say that he isn't enjoying his football or that he doesn't particularly like Liverpool. As I said every indication he's given so far is that he's happy at the club, he obviously had a taste of success last season and is desperate for more, and wants money commensurate with his talent and the demand for his services. Don't all players?

That demand is obviously massive at the moment because he's an immensely talented (and English) player, I guarantee his agent has received offers from other clubs, thus he knows the market value of his client and he wouldn't be doing his job unless he twisted Liverpool's arm into paying him a salary that is as close to that figure as possible.

This whole situation is entirely predictable, and to be honest I'm yet to see anything that concerns me all that much with respect to Sterling's immediate future with us. Long term who knows where he'll end up, but as Scholes and a number of other highly respected pundits and former players have said in the last few days, everyone can see that Liverpool is the perfect place for him to continue his development for the time being. He's at a club where he's getting regular minutes in a system that is being built around him and playing a style that suits him, and once this is all worked out he'll be paid very well while he continues that development.

He's 20 and sounds like he wants time to think about where he wants to play for the next 5 years. It's tough for the fans but i can see where he may be coming from. His career will only last another 15 years. Most people do stupid things in their late teens/early 20s too.

Personally, I think it would be best for him to stay at liverpool, and leave for a bigger club when he is 23-24, not 20 and likely to sit on the pine at say a Barca, madrid, bayern etc

Should keep developing his game and proving himself at liverpool by being a consistent performer.

Just my opinion anyway, it's what I'd do if I was him.

Stupid would be moving to a club where he may be paid an absolute fortune but only used sparingly as a substitute, stunting his development and ending up another washed up might have been English player. The smart decision for him right now is to stay at Liverpool and continue growing in a side where he is being given every possible opportunity to succeed. He won't get that at Real, he won't get that at Chelsea, he won't get that at City, he won't get that at Bayern.

In the words of Jay-Z and Kanye West, 'you need to crawl before you ball'. The money and success will come in time, but right now the only thing he should be thinking about when making this decision is 'which club is going to be the best place for me to continue my development and maximize my talent?'. I'm sure everyone would love to have him but it's clear to see that the answer to that question is Liverpool, and that's why I'm not worried about him going anywhere for the foreseeable future. You're welcome to come back to me in 2019 and see if my position's changed though!

Absolutely mate. He should stay. People do stupid things when they are young. This whole thing stinks of his agent getting in his ear more than anything.

Now I ain't sayin' he a golddigger...

He's obviously not developing very well at Liverpool under Rodgers as he's gone backwards this season. Man City would be a good option as they need a rebuild and a player like him. Spurs and Arsenal are other good places for him to develop his talents

There are a multitude of clubs, in England and Europe, where this would also be the case. It doesn't make Liverpool special as the only club.

For example, if he moved to Arsenal he would be getting regular minutes in a system and style that suits him.

He'd get minutes at Man United and City as well. Chelsea maybe not due to their squad.

Yeah I know what you're saying and there are obviously other clubs out there who are good at developing players, but a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. He knows he's on a good wicket at Liverpool and as a few of his team mates will attest to, the grass isn't always greener!

I've already discussed why I think a move to Arsenal would make no sense, a move to United is off the table for obvious reasons, and City don't have what I'd call a great record when it comes to backing in young English players over the last few years. It might be a different scenario with Sterling given his talent, it might not. Either way it'd be a monumental risk to be taking at this stage of his development to move to a massive club like that (either in England or in Europe) who are capable of bringing another £50m talent into his position and shunting him to the bench in the blink of an eye if they choose to.

sterling would start basically every game for us. we wouldnt what would end up likely as breaking our transfer record and then not play him.

he could choose whether he wanted left or right wing too.

plus the young english players we've had are crap, injured or both.

Don't think it would hurt him to stay at Liverpool. Still has a fair bit of develpment to do. Reminds me a bit of SWP when he left us, was one of the best players in our side, but could have done with another year to develop some consistency and really consolidate the gains he had already made.

Don't think it would be a disaster for him to move either. Plenty of champions league clubs where he would play regularly.

As for our record Hart has done alright. Johnson didnt played a lot less than he did at Boro or Sunderland, Rodwell played when fit under Mancini.

Sinclair is probably the poster child for "City don't give English players a chance" brigade, but Sterling is ten times the player really.

Nothing. That's the actual story although apparently some here are personal friends with Sterling and know that "he doesn't like liverpool and/or his team mates". Even though his management team were happy to sign a deal at 140k / week. Must really hate it there.
Just like you when you were certain what Torres was doing? ;)

Dont you ever get tired of trolling? Like dont you ever want to actually contribute to a conversation in a meaningful and serious way.

It must get so boring.

You're referencing The Lad Bible as support to your argument?

By gosh, now I've seen it all.

The Arsenal fan release suarez petition was reported by numerous media outlets. It actually happened and was the most hilarious meltdowns I have seen. Did you sign the petition?
