Perhaps he means that nobody could name members of the team? I assume Shearer was there and maybe Given in goal, but I don't think I'd be able to name many other of the XI. Probably says more about my football knowledge than anything, but I guess that might be his point.
off the top of my head....Asprilla, Ketsbaia, Ginola, Albert, Gary speed

Successful Troll :thumbsu:

I thought maybe he'd been spending a bit too much time with his best mate Carragher who had a similar jibe at us earlier in the season. :D

After giving it some extra thought, maybe he just repressed parts of that season...like when Ginola tore him a new one during this particular game. ;)

Possibly mate - I don't think he was being disrespectful or anything like that, just that history books years from now will record who won the title and maybe not really look at how the team played.

I think it just raised a few eyebrows with success-starved Toon fans as the team pretty much represents the golden age for the club (playing in the champions league, finishing runners' up twice etc). Given how little we've had to hang our hats on, it's just nice to have those memories of a team that played gung-ho football. :)

That said, the Entertainers had quite a few famous members among them - Shearer, Ginola, Les Ferdinand, Peter Beardsley, Rob Lee, Philippe Albert (for his chip alone) and Tino Asprilla probably being the most prominent. Then you had others who had long careers in the top flight (David Batty, Shaka Hislop, Keith Gillespie, Steve Watson and Aaron Hughes).

Plus your man Harper was part of the squad too. ;)

Speed was a Kenny Dog Leash (Dalglish) signing. Such a shame he's not around, way too young. Could have been a potential Toon manager had fate played out differently. :(

Ketsbaia...what a gem. The Georgian Geordie. :D

Absolutely mental. Wouldn't mind seeing him manage us. Would certainly give the players a kick up the backside...

I remember going up to St James Park about a decade ago. I was walking around the stadium about an hour before the match. It was chaos, people running around "he's coming, he's coming".

I followed the crowd, and it turns out it was the City bus arriving.

It was packed, a good hour before the match with Geordies wanting to see and cheer the opposition manager.

Its a modern day attitude that history equals trophies won. People with that attitude miss a trick imo.

That team played a huge part in the premier league being what it is. You still see footage of that Liverpool match, and KK's rant every now and then. That'll be the case in 20 years IMO and no offence to Chelsea but them winning the league this season will barely register on the scale.

Apparently Carlos Vela's free kick goal today was Real Sociedad's first goal direct from a free kick since 2010. I don't even know how that's possible.

Also, the 2010 goal was scored by their goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo.

Strong WTFs all round.

Who is the biggest Chelsea legend?
