It's probably hypocritical because I would have said "AFL", "NFL" etc. plenty of times (though generally I would just say football/soccer), but there's something particularly annoying about "EPL" in my opinion. As Ashton Agar said, the "correct" term should be "Premier League".

Why? If I said the Premier League I could be referring to any of the numerous Premier Leagues. In England, you can refer to it as such because it's your domestic league, so calling it the PL is fine. Here, adding the E really just clarifies.

Besides, do we call it FL? Or AFL?

But surely it all comes down to context. When you are talking about soccer with your mates and the term "Premier League" comes up, your audience will probably understand that the reference is not to the Belarusian Premier League or the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It has nothing to do with the presence of a particular letter, such as the "E" or the "A". There is just something about the use of "EPL" that grates.

Meh I dunno, my mates use the two interchangeably and it has never grated with me. I just don't see a big deal.

I did acknowledge that I am probably in the minority! Haha.

Each to their own I suppose.

I didn't even actually realise the official title wasn't the English Premier League. Makes it all seem a bit weird. I even remember when Swansea got promoted about how they'd need to change the name.

Learn something new every day.

Yeah, officially, it is the "(sponsor) Premier League", so at the moment the Barclays Premier League. "English Premier League" (and hence EPL) is how it is commonly known outside England.

What an experience. Wish I'd gone on my own/hung out with chef, pantskyle and Hatchy1992 so I could be in the active support section but ah well.

Hazard is just out of this world. Gets grabbed and kicked constantly but is phenomenal to watch.

Sydney played brilliantly as well. Why was their "goal" disallowed?

Wow, look at all those Newcastle games. I bet you people all around the country wanted to see those games quite badly. I think they got an extra 750k for every game over the 10 game minimum. Then again, shouldn't be surprising since it's bias to club size, but still... how dour...

One more season of this before it's a minimum 100m for every season of survival thanks to the new TV deal.

To think people would think you crazy for moving from Ajax to West Brom 20 years ago. English TV money sure changes things.

Internet streams of 3pm games must be rife. Only seeing your club on TV 10 times lolol.

Well to be fair Fryer, we are the comedy club of the PL - I suspect most neutrals like a good laugh which Ashley seems more than happy for the club to provide. ;)

Are the parachute payments going to increase? The gulf between PL and Championship will continue to grow further apart if they do.

I think they would increase relative to the increase in PL money.
