Mitten is mad that he no longer gets fed info by United. Mathieson is the only one who does. In reality, nobody can compete with the $$$$ thrown around at youth level by City. United rely on their pedigree and youth history which still........is the best.
It is? When did you last have a young player come through the ranks to play a significant part for United?

Are we the only region to have a women's player on the cover?

Seems strange that they'd only have it on one of the multiple regions.

Also, lol Henderson. Should've been Aguero.

Januzaj was significant for us the year b4 last. That guy everyone is trying to sign for 100m came through the academy. Maybe look at ur own clubs flogs
Who are you referring to here then?

And in recent times who has played a significant part for you?

One player is hardly outstanding.

Define recent times mate. The class of 92 were playing up until last year. If you search for our last title winning team you'll see plenty of homegrown players who have played a significant part for us. I cbf listing them all. I didn't say it was outstanding either. People still fap over la masia despite not producing a 1st team player since 2008.

Didn't say that mate. United produce more 1st team players than any other club. Criticism is surprising tbh.

I'd agree with that.

Then you have guys like Wilson, McNair, Blackett, Evans, James etc. who are all in and around the Senior Squad.

Then you look at the amount of players they have sold who are now playing for other sides. Josh King who has just moved to Bournemouth, McShane who was with us but is now at Brighton, Brady and Chester who are with us, Corry Evans at Blackburn, James at Leicester, and this is just off the top of my head.

So you're actually gonna have Flamingo Land across the front of your shirts. Haha. Gold.

The name is a bit silly (not sure what kind of business would go with a name like that lol) but the colours might at least look well on the Hull black and amber. Any idea of what the new sponsorship deal is worth SM?

I just hope for your sake Allam doesn't rebrand the club to Flamingos SM! :p

Huh? No they dont? I cant think of any who have come through recently. You guys always hark back to the class of 92. That was 23 years ago mate.

Um yes we do. There was a thread about it last season. Only Barca produce more 1st team players than United. A few came through last season mate!

They did not play a significant part though, which is the argument.

An amusement park/zoo/resort in Yorkshire, so that's the local sponsor right there. Although it does have some implications about the club, though maybe they can emphasise the zoo part and make something of it.

Look on the bright side, at least it's not Alton Towers. (Do look up the news on that one.)

Correct. Who cares if they go elsewhere. Do young players at Utd come through the youth system and play significant parts for United?

No.
If you play first team football at United does that count ffs. Define significant.

I agree, this is a fairly ridiculous argument.

Kiko Macheda could be defined as having a significant impact considering the importance of the goals he scored but the reality is that he was an absolute dud. Someone like McNair in comparison really hasn't done that much but he's been a pretty solid performer whenever we've turned to him and I think over the course of a season being able to get that sort of reliable contribution from fringe/youth players can be very important.

Compared to Gerrard I think anyone was going to be underwhelming to be fair! Not in the elite bracket of players but while it helps I don't think that's a pre-requisite for being a great leader. He's been a model of consistency for us over the last 2 seasons, he's very level headed, has the respect of his team mates and doesn't seem to have an issue with calling them out if they're doing the wrong thing on field - all qualities I'd have at the top of my list if I was looking for a captain.

He seems the sort of player who thrives with the added responsibility too, having stepped up markedly when handed the armband in Gerrard's absence this year.

I'd say compare to the past 3-4 decades Henderson would have to be one of the most underwhelming Liverpool captains

It's not about the ability of a player but force of personality. Being the big personality, having that aura, being the alpha. Henderson isn't any of that. He's a solid worker sure, he makes some noise on the pitch, but no more than say Dirk Kuyt did. Kuyt was great, but I wouldn't have made him captain

Paul Ince was a dick but he was a big personality, he has that about him. I'd compare to Henderson to Jamie Redknapp and Sami on Redknapp was a big upgrade captain wise. And I think Redknapp would be a better choice than Henderson as captain now, hypothetically

In fact I think when the going got tough last season, Henderson went missing far too often

Good luck to him, I like him, hope he prove sme wrong, I just absolutely would not have made him captain

Yeah Redknapp or Steve McMahon are good comparisons. Personally I think it's a good selection and he's clearly the best we've got in terms of leadership credentials, but I suppose we should probably hold judgement on him until we've actually seen him in the role full time.
