Brown and O'shea left when their best years were behind them. Brown had a great 08 UCL final vs Chelsea. Provided the assist for Ronnie. Clevs and Welbs didn't make the grade but will have good careers elsewhere and I'm sure they'll get over how shit they are when they look in their trophy cabinet at home and see all those England caps. Star players are hard to find Jod, by your criteria only Soton have a decent academy, everyone else is shit.
Im not arguing with you over the merits of each and every player. You said Manchester United has the best academy in the world. I just called you out on that and said it's ridiculous which is true.

He never said that at all, Bojan said we produce the most first team players, in the context of England this is 100% true.

Mitten is mad that he no longer gets fed info by United. Mathieson is the only one who does. In reality, nobody can compete with the $$$$ thrown around at youth level by City. United rely on their pedigree and youth history which still.......is the best.
So this is awkward.

So this is awkward.
It's only awkward for you mate. United's youth HISTORY is the best in England. Good luck disputing that. I never said that United have the best Academy in the world. awks

So this is awkward.

Difference between saying they have the best pedigree - which they do, as proven by the number of first team players produced - and saying their academy produces the best players.

Right, your youth history. For once, a United fan talking about history.

Ok so what makes United's the best? Or are you just gonna say class of 92. Im not trolling, just genuinely interested and ready for you to blow my mind.

Forgive me, i know this is Liverpools domain so i might not be up to scratch.

Manchester United have had a homegrown player in every matchday squad since October 1937, over 3,750 games. Our top 5 appearance makers are all youth team players. Is that pedigree or history enough for you?

Here's a list of United youth team players who have represented their country:

Excerpt from an article comparing Liverpool's and United's academy from 2011.
Academies head-to-head:

Comparing Liverpool’s Academy success in terms of actually producing players for the club with United’s is quite staggering:

Liverpool have brought through 69 players from the Youth team
Manchester United have brought through 161 players from the Youth team

Liverpool have had 19 of those 69 reach 100 league appearances or more
Manchester United have had 38 of those 161 players reach 100 league appearances or more

Liverpool youth players have amassed 6,519 First Team league games
Manchester United players have amassed 12,505 First Team league games

Liverpool have won five European Cups with 7 Youth players featuring in the successful finals
Manchester United have won three European Cups with 17 Youth players featuring in the successful finals

NB definition of a Youth player is someone who played youth football at an under 18 level; the criteria for going on to be included as a first team player involves not playing first team football for any other club. For example, Lee Sharpe is excluded as he played first team football for Torquay before joining United

Whilst the figures show that all-round United’s Academy has been far more successful, one has to recognise that United’s is a freak Academy. The success the club have had in terms of production is no fluke but is unmatched by anyone. Liverpool, like United can boast of players playing at the top level in English football who didn’t quite make it at the club – Stephen Warnock and Danny Guthrie being two good examples.

United’s success, is as I said no fluke. Taking inspiration from Sir Matt Bubsy, Jimmy Murphy and Joe Armstrong, United have always tried to replicate the achievements of The Busby Babes – home produced players. The Sir Alex Ferguson era has been particularly fruitful but this success has been down to having passionate people overseeing the Academy – Brian Kidd, Eric Harrison, Nobby Stiles and more recently Brian McClair.

So mate,

Because Manchester United are the only English side to rank in Europe's top 10 when it comes to producing the most players who go on to play first team football in Europe's top five leagues.

EDIT

Bojan's post is brilliant but this is just a simpler way of looking at it.

beIN sports have champions league broadcast rights this year.

Number of reasons for having Foxtel is now 2. Not paying an extra 30 a month for that channel.
I pay $20 for it. I honestly don't mind, it's got Bundeliga, MLS, Championship, Euro's and now CL.

Fair bit of football for all that.

I probably would only watch the CL on it, so can't justify spending that much extra a month when I'm the only one who would use it.

Fair enough. Funnily enough, that's the one I wouldn't watch due to the fact it's on when I'm commuting to work. If you watch a lot of football, it's definitely not the worst value.

Yeah right, well I didnt ask you to compare it to Liverpool's. You said the best in the world.

How does is stack up to Barcelona's, Ajax, Southampton, West Ham, Gremio, Santos etc etc etc

Considering we've been talking about them having the best Academy in England I'd assume half of those aren't relevant?

I never said the best in world jod23 You're sounding like Hodgepodge with all this moving the goalposts BS.

BTW, if you want to compare United's academy to others, i'll let you do the work mate.
Oh ok, I honestly thought you said in the world. Didnt somebody mention La Masia? If you're saying England then fair enough. I thought we were talking throughout the world.

Carry on.

All good mate :thumbsu:

I mentioned La Masia. They haven't produced a regular first team footballer since 2008 but it doesn't make it any less of a gun academy. IMO, youth is rather cyclical. You tend to have groups of youth team stars every so often rather than 1 or 2 coming through regularly each year.

I know Liverpool have some talented kids coming through atm.

Cyclical is probably the best way to describe youth systems. Although our youth setup was woeful for years after we had the fruits from the Gerrard era. Carragher, Owen, Fowler etc etc

ATM you are right, we do, but you never know which ones will actually make it. So many are good enough fringe players but end up leaving to get first team football. Recently we have seen that with Jack Robinson, Conor Coady, Martin Kelly, Suso etc. Guys like Wisdom and Flanagan are two who are trying to buck the trend and carve out a role for themselves. Along with Ibe of course.

But then there are huge wraps on a ton of kids like Kent, Wilson, Ojo, Chirivella, Maguire, Rossiter, Sinclair, Dunn, Brannagan, Canos, Phillips. The list goes on. Hopefully some make the step up.
