Mourinho is amusing though. He knows he is trolling when he says that shit... right?

Of course, it's more aimed at his employers to loosen the purse strings.

He says a lot of shit, but there's always a reason.

Mou's spent 19m net sinces he's been back apparently.

Easy to do that when you have £150m+ worth of players to sell that aren't (and in some cases never have been) part of your senior squad.

It is, smart business. Chelsea are very clever nowadays.

Plus while selling those players we still bought in players who were more suited to the way we play and it has payed dividends on and off the field. Seems we are having another thrifty summer.

Keano says it like it is on Di Maria:

“It’s not a football move, it’s a lifestyle move. It tells me the player is weak and his wife runs his life.”
If you're a South American where would you rather be paid an awful lot of money Manchester or Paris?

i'm assuming that this is a rhetorical question.

If i was going to live in France i'd live in Cannes or Nice.....don't think they'd be able to afford ADM's wages though! Never particularly liked Paris.

That wasn't the question though. ;)

Must disagree with you there. Paris is where I would live if I could live anywhere on Europe. Can't beat the cafe lifestyle & the nightlife.

But that really should be a secondary consideration for a footballer. They will have a great lifestyle pretty much anywhere with the coin they are on and they have plenty of time to get away in the off season.

After 2 good seasons you'd be safe to assume a player isn't a flash in the pan. Yes Benteke backed it up in a 3rd season. But like I mentioned I think last season was an abomination from Lukaku and he will be a goal every 2nd game striker again this season and beyond

Yep fair enough, but I was making the comparison to justify the fee, a little different to the main topic being discussed.

I think they're incredibly similar players, but I definitely agree with AC that Benteke is better with the ball at his feet. I think Benteke can better adapt to different systems than Lukaku, who has only ever really played in the same system, whether at WBA or Everton.

Happy to continue the genuinely interesting discussion of Benteke's potential at Liverpool jd2010 but maybe we should move it here?
Like I was saying all 3 seasons Benteke has played at Villa (and who knows how many systems Tactics Tim has used) they've always got the ball to him in a direct manner (crosses or long ball) to capitalise on his biggest strength, his strength. At Liverpool (one of the dippers can say otherwise) I don't think that's the way Rodgers plays. All I've been saying is he will have to change the way he is used to playing. His Belgium stats suggest he should be fine, I can't say I've seen him play for the national side hence so can't judge other than looking at his goal:game ratio

Villa haven't just crossed/long balled to him, he has fed off short quick passes to his feet plenty of times too, which is how this conversation started. Even disregarding that, 3 less crosses to him a game won't automatically make him unable to finish them off. I think he'll be fine and he will get 10-15 goals for Liverpool.

133 more crosses than Liverpool last season. 134 more the season before. This is all while having significantly less possession of the ball (49% vs 56% last season)

Funnily enough when Liverpool finished 7 3 years ago they had more crosses than Aston Villa. I think we can all agree we'd be happy for them to go back to that style & league position!
