I was born and bred in Sydney and support Adelaide and hull. You support Liverpool. Clearly teams you support don't have to be from the city you come from.
Overseas is obviously different. Like supporting the Chicago Bulls or Liverpool. You end up supporting overseas teams for a myriad of reasons.

But in Australia. It's teams from Perth, because im from Perth. West Coast, the Wildcats and the Glory. I support the first two but dont care about the Glory, obviously I want them to win because go Perth, but have no care factor.

Different for WC and the Wildcats though.

OK mate. I think it's clear you didn't give the A league a chance for whatever reason which is why people are calling it how they see it.

Now that doesn't make sense. The gulf between the NBA & NBL is massive, probably bigger then the A League / EPL gulf in standard. I thought for all the reasons to not follow the glory would surely apply to the Wildcats also.

That's why we have judges. It is their job to assess cases on their merits. When governments come in with blanket rules you get all sorts of problems. Of course there are problems already with the fact the judiciary isn't democratic and judges get reputations for being lenient on one thing and not another which means your sentencing may depend a bit on the roll of the dice (which is far from ideal), but then you can appeal. The biggest problem is the expense, but on the other hand that does discourage wasting the court's time.

None of that applies here as Johnson has money. He can appeal. However, he will no doubt struggle mostly because they know he looked up the laws before going on to break them. That suggests no respect for the law, and that he was fully planning to do something wrong. Then there's the issue of whether he cooperated or tried to cover up the crime.

The legal system unsurprisingly is harsh on people who knowingly break the law. He was also carrying on his regular life of having a growing family and performing at a high level in his job, with no sign of mental issues that he could potentially claim as a distorting factor to his regular moral compass. And of course he would be considered to be in a 'position of trust' like the teacher in your unlinked-to stories due to the fact he represented a trusted institution of which the victim was a huge fan. The fact the case is high-profile also brings in a 'setting an example' element.

I have no desire to dig around the criminal cases you mentioned, by the nature of the crime this stuff is pretty unpleasant and it does get weird with teenagers because hormone-riddled students will often have a teacher they think is hot (our school definitely had a few hot teachers), but if you want to provide links or do the research yourself, I'm sure you could pretty quickly find out the reasons for leniency in the other cases.
Whilst I agree with a lot of what you say, not sure how a woman can have sex with an underage boy 50-80 times apparently in a three month period and get no jail time. Yet Johnson just erm... for lack of a better term fingers the girl and kisses her and gets six years. Im not excusing Johnson, nor am I against him getting six years. Just so bizarre looking at other cases and how little time they are getting.

You'll find it's women praying on young boys that get less time too which is strange.

It's not about giving it a chance or not. I just have no interest in it. I dont have any interest in Baseball either so dont follow any form of that. I dont have any interest in the A-League because it's a subpar league full of average players.

That's just how it is.

They aren't average players though. That's only true if you're comparing them to EPL footballers.

In reality A League football is a good standard.

I grew up with the Wildcats though. Was a season ticket holder for years an years and met all the guys. My mum is friends with Cal Bruton and I must have met and hung out with him a ton of times. Saw all our early championships with JC, Grace, Pinder, Watto and the like.

Grew up on them. Also I was a mad Jordan fan as a kid. I lived and breathed basketball back then. Played non stop as a kid. Still play today. I didnt really get into football until my late teens.

When I was kid it was all NBA, Chicago and MJ, the Wildcats and the West Coast Eagles.

Now it's all Liverpool, with side interests in the NBA and Chicago and still a lot of interest in WC.

The Wildcats interest has died off also. Although ive been to a couple of games in the last years or so. The NBL isnt the same as it was back in the 90's.

As I said - provide a link and we can look into it, or do the research and find out yourself. Your instinct that it seems incongruous is right. But you either spend time online telling everyone that the world is stupid/screwed/weird/whatever or you actually use a search engine and see if it really is that way.

Oh I couldnt be bothered going into in that amount of detail. I dont give that many ****s. I just saw similar cases being talked about alongside the Johnson case online and in British media was all. Thought it was pretty crazy how different the sentences all are.

But isnt that how you should be comparing them? The reason these players play in the A-League is because they are not good enough to play in Europe.

The Wildcats are still pretty damn big over here. Not as big as AFL etc, but they'd be loving the move to Perth Arena

What's this past tense doing here?

Haha fair play. I DO love Michael Jordan, in the past, now and forever.

Johnson is appealing apparently. Not sure how since he admitted guilt.
Probably to try get a reduced sentence I'd assume. There is precedence with other cases that he shouldnt be getting six years.

Even though I think they all should get that many years. But if I were him, id be pointing the finger at other cases and be trying to get my sentence heavily reduced. Let's hope he fails.

I think we're seeing your issue with the A League and that you're only interested in EPL standard football.

If you accept it for what it is you'll find yourself enjoying it.

Do you think fans of league 1 / championship teams in England should not bother because they can go and watch PL football?

I watch and enjoy the Championship though. So it's not that im only interested in a particular standard of football.

Again fans of League 1 and Championship sides would obviously have a passion for their club. So of course not. But on the other hand I bet huge Yeovil fans still watch the PL.

I'm with jod, never been able to get into a-league, could be because of no local team though and if I'm going to watch games I'm unlikely to attend may as well watch the best standard.

Also the volume of sport you can watch probably hurts local leagues. For example I barely watch any NBL now even though I used to follow it really closely. With NBA league pass though always games to watch.

Same lol. No interest in Netball but still want the Vixens to win.

All I can say Jodly is come to a Melbourne derby and tell me what you think. If you're in Melbourne hit me up. Guarantee you'll love it.
Haha no thanks bro. Again why would I want to go to something that I have little to no interest in. :D

But enjoy it, if you love it then great, support your chosen A-League team and the A-League. But it's just not for me.

I actually couldnt name one A-League player. Haha. That's probably bad.

#GetJod2theALeague

Lol if he doesn't want to go, he doesn't want to go. Has all his football emotion vested in Liverpool. It's the same with me, I have no other interest in any other football team outside of Spurs (despite living a few minutes down the road from Dag & Redbridge)

Surely the teachers jod mentioned knowingly broke the law too? It'd be one of the first things you'd learn as a high school teacher that sexual relations with students is not just wrong but against the law
