No different to Luongo pre Asian Cup.

I knew who he was which was the point.
But you didn't know where he played or that he scored? Euro snob ;)

Football is a massive game all over the world. I pay attention to several leagues but it's nigh on impossible to know every player, especially those plying their trades in the 2nd division of Italian football.

What are you on about? The criticism of jod was that he hadn't heard of the player.

He's a Lazio player.. So you hadn't heard of luongo because he was at Swindon?

Except that he played in England which receives far more coverage than Serie B.
League One doesn't. Not really sure why you're trying to make this an argument.

Ahh so just knowing the player is important enough?

I had heard of Luongo because the Australian media broadcast on it. I've not read anything about this kid in Serie B.

You like taking pot shots at Jod regularly, I just think you're off base in this instance.

He did though. Fox Sports regularly commented on him. They haven't commented on the other kid.

He's only been on loan for 6 months. He's Lazio's #1 academy prospect and was one of the best u/19's in Italy for a few years.

Ikonomidis is far better known than Luongo ever was when he was at Tottenham and then on loan to Swindon at the same age.

Ang gave him his national debut before he ever played a senior game.

He's played for the Socceroos in Australia ffs.

I think if you asked any Socceroos fan who actively watches them or attended a game in the past 12 months who he is, they'd be able to tell you.

He's been covered by Daniel Garbe, the world game and the fox shows plenty of times.

Lol.

Just stop.

You're way off.

Yes they have.
First screen shot is the google results of Luongo at Swindon. The second screen shot is the goggle results of Chris (just in general). Go on, tell me they've received the same exposure. Chris often appears as the small bit at the end of a different article.

See above.

Yeah those results are after the Asian Cup.

Coverage on Luongo has gone up 10 fold. Pretty much everything he did at Swindon was then reported on due to interest on his next transfer. There's been barely anything on him at QPR.

Google Ikonomidis, there's articals from the Herald Sun and SMH about him and Brad Smith over 12 months old.

He IS a current Socceroo. What the hell is the argument here? If you haven't heard of him then it's an indictment on you if you are an Australian football fan.

I personally heard about him 4 years ago. I knew of Luongo about 6 years ago.

I really don't. In fact people have had a crack at me for how much I've agreed with jod lately.

You mean all those articles about luongo after he was named player of the tournament in Asian cup? Lol.

Really no idea why people are arguing. Weird one.

I'm sure people like SM have also heard about Panos Armenakas, Peter Skapetis, Xaine Zannedaine, Milos Degenek.

It's no different to you or Jod taking an interest in Leicester or Liverpools academy sides.

You want to know potentially who the next stars of this country are.

These kids haven't even played junior rep sides in some cases, let alone a full international.

I've seen Daniel Garbe ask Miroslav Klose about Ikonomidis. Lol.

thread for the non-eurosnobs in the football australia sub-board if you wanna post in there.
Guilty as charged your honour. ****s given...0

I follow Spurs and follow them heavily and have nowhere near enough time to follow Australian football intently. I just follow and enjoy a lot of sports which takes up time.

I think I've heard of Degenek, to be honest I follow the A-League and then follow the round ups fox sports does of all the Aussies playing abroad.. Even though apparently Fox don't report on Ikonomides. ;)

Yeah who gives a shit really if you haven't heard of them. Such a pretty argument.
So pretty. [emoji7]

But yes really not sure why it was argued.

Chris Ikonomidis just scored first goal in Serie B. Congrats Christopher.

Edit: No idea if this is the correct thread, just thought it's something that people would want to know

Congrats to him!

I see there has been quite a commotion about him. I do definitely remember him being noteworthy because he hadn't played a senior game, yet being called up for Australia. If I recall correctly, it's because they wanted to secure his services for Australia rather than Greece, which is more lucrative with the calls of Europe (of course, Greece these days... nah).
