It isn't on form.

Drinkwater gets dropped despite picking Wilshere and Henderson (both with injury issues in recent times), just so he can take 5 strikers (even though he only plays 1 striker up top).

Roy's an idiot.

He's picking the team to win games, not to reward a good season. Wilshere brings something to the England team that no one else does which is why he is in the squad.

Yeah a crackpipe ;)

Very lucky to be going but now he's there he should start ahead of Henderson.

You need something to relax between matches :D

He's also a proven England performer and was their best player during the qualifying phase, Drinkwater is just too similar to the other England 'workhorse' type midfielders which is why he was left out IMO. Unlucky yes, but also completely understandable.

I don't agree that it's understandable. Needs more than 1 DM in the squad, especially when said DM will be CB cover because he only picked 3.... And not a brilliant 3 at that.

Dier gets injured who's going to shield the back 4? Henderson. Lol.

5 attackers also. Drinkwater should be in the squad.

Is Drinkwater a DM though? I would have thought that Kante filled that role for Leicester and Drinkwater was more in the Wilshere/Alli/Henderson position as a box to box central mid. It is an attack heavy squad though that's for sure, the real argument should be why Rashford came in rather than Drinkwater instead of questioning Wilshere's addition, does Rashford provide anything that Kane/Vardy/Rooney don't?

i bloody hope Cahill doesnt come to the A-League. I really dont wont to listen to him every week refer to himself as the messiah of Australian Football

Drinkwater is a good player, don't get me wrong. I just think the midfielders Roy has picked to fill that box to box role ahead of him are better footballers.

There are always hard luck stories of players who are right on the edge of the squad who miss out, players that you could make as strong a case for including them as you can against including them. Drinkwater is that man this year. I understand the argument for taking him to France, I just think the midfielders who are in there ahead of him offer more in terms of quality and versatility.

With Sturridge, Kane, Vardy & Rooney ahead of him - I wouldn't be surprised if Rashford didn't see a minute of playing time this tournament. He's the one I'd be looking at taking out of that squad for Drinkwater.

Rashford, Sturridge, Wilshere and Henderson.

All could have cases mounted for and against their selections. Imo any of those 4 could/should have been left off the squad. Not overly fussed which one tbh.

From the people that claimed to be interested in fair play. Article only really needs the 6 words in red. It will happen unfortunately and we'll all be the worse off for it.

The Champions League is to undergo what could be a major revamp after Uefa confirmed it would decide in December on proposed changes to its elite club competition.

The director of competitions for European football’s governing body revealed a format for the 2018-21 seasons of the Champions League would be determined “by the end of the year”.

Giorgio Marchetti’s pronouncement followed behind-closed-doors meetings involving senior club officials ahead of Saturday’s final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Amendments on the table range from tweaks to the Champions League’s entry criteria to the introduction of a fully-fledged European Super League, although more likely is an overhaul of a group stage many believe has become stale and is holding back Uefa’s ability to generate revenue.

“We need a format by the end of the year,” said Marchetti. “We are consulting and we are listening.”

Specific options include more guaranteed entries for the strongest leagues, protected places for the biggest clubs, and playing matches on Saturdays rather than midweek to appeal to Asian and American audiences.

Some of the biggest European teams are also worried about the growing financial chasm between themselves and sides from Premier League, where the bottom club will earn £100m from next season, far in excess of the winner of the Champions League.

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has noted even the 32-franchise NFL gets much more TV revenue than the Champions League, despite a smaller core fan base and little broad appeal outside the United States.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester Cityheld a secret meeting earlier this year at which the prospect of a European Super League was raised.

That would be resisted by the Premier League, which would also fight any attempt to play Champions League matches on a Saturday where its own competition is taking place.

City ruining football again

United need to get back into the champions league some way. The whole football thing isn't really working out any more.

FWIW if we support any moves for wildcards, or a Super League the people running the club can **** right off as far as I'm concerned. Not interested in the slightest even if we benefit from it.

feel the same way mate. Even though United would benefit significantly from it, it goes against every ethical fibre in my body, and stinks of owners trying to protect their investments and not looking out for the best interests of football. There are enough w***ers trying to ruin the game without this happening.

i mean, that's hardly the fault of the english clubs is it

They weren't so worried when they earned more than everyone else and that allowed them to extend/maintain their dominance.

It was all about "spend what you earn" until they realised they didn't earn enough.

It'd ruin the game. You'd have the fat cats at the big clubs who never come under much pressure because the bare minimum of CL football is guaranteed.

If it were to come in I'd almost prefer us to go back to being a cup run team. Focus on the FA Cup more.

If the Premier League used the same ratio as La Liga to structure their broadcasting revenue payments (17.5% to Real, 17.5% to Barça, 65% divided amongst the rest), the top 2 clubs in the league would have earnt approx £285m from broadcasting revenue alone this year.

How big would Spurs' collapse have been then. If 2nd to 3rd meant that kind of money.

La Liga is stupid.
