Money well spent for us.

2 titles, 3 cups.

Around £150m in champions league revenue I'm sure we wouldnt have got without transfer spending.

Around £400m in domestic TV revenue, reckon we would have lost a third of that without spending (presuming we stayed in the league).

The value of our squad has gone up by well over £100m too.

Shows why clubs spend big.

Spending sensibly. Spending big can just see you go bankrupt. Need to put a lot into infrastructure and youth set up as well. A lot of clubs are stuck in the rut where they have to plough all money into players just to stay up. Hard to break into that next level.

chef reading Pirlo's book he speaks a lot of Conte. Absolutely loves him. Said training was everyone playing on the same team trying out tactics, and they kept doing them until they were right. He also said after losses Conte wouldn't come into the dressing room, or if he did he would come in off his rocker hurling things. And after a win he might and just say a few words. Seems to deeply respect him and would do anything for him.

He almost joined Chelsea in 09 too, but money was the stumbling point, and they wanted Ivanovic as part of the deal. He was offered 5m Euros a season over four years.

-------

I also read when he got an extension at Milan, they offered him a blank contract and he could write in his salary himself.

Yeah I've been meaning to get it. Saw the Chelsea stuff floating around on the net, would have been quite player for us:oops:

So many of Contes ex players say they would go to war/die for him. So much respect.

Very proud of Spurs after viewing that table. Obvious where a lot of our money has been going. Funny thing is we've got our best squad in absolute years, while previously we forked out tens of millions in net spend each year and got pretty much nowhere.

Also can see why Leicester beat us to the title now. Little old Spurs stood no chance against that spending power!

Is Conte a bit of a manchild? I find his ott celebrating a bit odd

USM holdings have a 5yr deal for naming rights for Everton's Finch Farm training facility. Interesting times ahead *if* Usmanov sells his Arsenal shares to become majority shareholder at Everton to co-own with Moshiri!!

Proud, but it doesn't really twll the whole story. Our recent transfer history is a little strange and not really what would be expected. We've done particularly with the cheaper transfers, but our more expensive purchases have just about all been disasters. Take our team against Chelsea for example:

Lloris: 11m, Walker: ~4m, Dier: 4m, Alderweireld: 12m, Vertognhen: 11m, Rose: 1m, Wanyama: 11m, Dembele: 15m, Eriksen: 11m, Alli: 5m, Kane: free

So a combined fee of about 85m, which most would agree is excellent for that collection of players. But then you look at our 20m+ transfers in recent seasons and it's not happy reading:

Sissoko: 30m, Lamela: 30m, Soldado: 26m, Son: 22m, as well as 16m for Paulinho and 17m for Janssen.

Only Lamela could be said to be a success from that, but even then it would be debatable if he's justified his fee.

I'm proud that we've managed to assemble a competitive first team with so little spent. But I'm slightly disappointed that our 'statement signings,' if you like, haven't been able to build on that.

Spurs net spend is only so low because of the Bale transfer. Be prouder of the recruitment being very good for some of the players brought in, rather than a "net spend"

Maybe it tells you that being prudent and cautious with cash leads to identifying stronger signings. A lot of these big-money signings (not only by us) are often made on reputations in foreign leagues alone with little thought on how the player will cope and adapt to the demands of the English game. That's why we see a higher ratio of flops. Signing players off YouTube comps isn't doing your job properly. The other thing of course is, although £20-30m is a lot of bread for all but a handful of clubs, it still won't guarantee you a cast-iron star footballer. For that you are looking at least at £40m now + super high wage demands that we are not capable of providing at the moment.

Liverpool had the Suarez cash and their net spend isn't anything like ours

The quoted period doesnt include the summer gone where we spent -20m. How much did you guys spend in the summer?

Well it does for us, just counted it myself. Last 5 seasons does come out at 5.5m. Surely it wouldn't include it for some clubs but not others?
32m net spend this season.

Is it? We did make a profit that window but most of that spending wouldn't have occurred had we not sold him so maybe that suggests in net terms it may not have altered much.

Makes you wonder what'll happen once spending can increase post stadium, spending big may not work so well. However, if the wage bill can increase we may see ourselves getting more of those 'good players' that ultimately go elsewhere. Money talks to some.

Yeah absolute ripper. Bet moomba was sat right behind it.

Was down the other end. But was a good game.

And a pretty enjoyable first up A League experience.
