United wouldn't have become the club it is today without spending more than what it earned in the early 90's.

I think all football clubs should be allowed to invest, especially when the financial rewards for improving your squad are so big. But there needs to be safeguards to protect clubs and supporters.

Not too bothered about sponsorship rules, they seem to work fine as they are.
That would be fine if it was true but it's not.

Etihad.

One of the biggest sponsorships because they are friendly with citys owners.

Why else would they give a **** about a minnow?
our sponsorship with etihad is woefully undervalued relative to club value.

It's not one of the biggest sponsorships, and if Etihad were to leave we'd get at least double what we're getting now.

That's where it's frustrating, now that there's an established hierarchy rules are in place.
Reeks of slowing down the progress of clubs that wish to join the big clubs table.

Let me guess b6 a middle eastern company.

Because any real business will not pay that much.

Marketing potential in city is shithouse at best.
guessing seems to be all you do.

nissan deal is the same amount as the etihad deal yearly. the etihad deal yearly ranks 5th in the prem.

We are (I think) the 5th or 6th most valuable brand in football. We are around the top of the league every year, in the champions league every year and have been involved in some of the most watched games in football history.

Nissan are overpaying.

I work in marketing and everyone wants nba, nfl or big epl clubs.

A lot of frms are overpaying for epl representation.

That is why Arsenal, United and Liverpool wanted the current version of FFP.

That's why FFP was brought in when it was. And changed as soon as the established elite realised it wasn't actually going to help them.

Now the new UEFA rankings/champions league financial distribution rules have been put in to help those same clubs.

There'll be more.

like adidas paying for a midtable club not playing in the champions league?

One of the biggest clubs in the world is open for sponsorship so it means bidding war.

Marketers want United because its more value then a super bowl commercial.

Dominant globally recognised brand.

When Etihad started their sponsorship deal with Eithad, it was woefully overvalued. You can argue that it is undervalued now though.

PSG is the biggest example of this though.

The thing about limiting clubs to spend what they earn is that the established clubs will always be able to spend more than anyone else. That gives them a better chance of qualifying for things like the champions league, which comes with huge financial rewards. Those rewards mean that those same clubs earn more than anyone else, which means that they can spend more than anyone else. This gives them a better chance of qualifying for things like the champions league, which comes with huge financial rewards. Etc etc etc.

I understand why clubs push so hard to bring this in. It's in their interests, but not necessarily the games.

it's 2017, we're one of the biggest brands in football. so are a lot of premier league clubs due to the exposure of the premier league.

we could easily go out and get bigger deals. and we absolutely should be. based on estimations by outside companies, the majority of our sponsorships are undervalued. etihad, nike just two which we should have renegotiated a long time ago.

I don't think PSG's is a sponsorship FWIW.

Our deal with Etihad was never woefully overvalued when compared to our rivals.
