Yeah but i mean if you had the choice tp have that record he does or just play your entire career at the top level then its an easy choice. As i said its a great record but not one you'd particularly want.

Ok mate. :drunk:

Jodly, do you really need to rain on his parade?
Not everyone can have the "top flight" only career. Some work hard to get to the top the hard way.

And fair enough too. At no point did i rain on the parade. I said a few times its a remarkable achievement.

You said it's a record no one wants.

Sometimes I think you genuinely don't realize what you've said, then twist yourself in knots to back it up.

I do get where Jod is coming from.

It takes absolutely nothing away from the journey/achievement that Clucas has managed but there's a reason that it's a new record.

He's done exceptionally well to get to where he's got but I don't think a player wants that record unless their career starts in non league football.

Take Sterling for instance - reckon he'd want that record or to have played in the PL the vast majority of his career?

Yeah so he probably didn't express his views particularly well but I think his idea has some merit.
It has no merit. Any player starting in the conference would kill to have that record. Just because 1% of footballers play all their football in the pl means nothing.

His point was no one wants that record, when the vast majority of footballers would.

The players that can start their career in League football (League 2 and higher) would not want that record. That's higher than 1% of footballers in England.

The only players that would want that record is those that start their career in Non League football.

It absolutely has some merit.

His point was no one would want it. If he'd said "Not many pl players would want it" I would agree.

I would think if you asked any player if they'd want to score in progressively higher leagues year on year they'd take it.

Sterling, as your example, would love to have scored for qpr in the championship, then Liverpool in the premier league, then city in the champions League.

That wasn't the conversation though I don't think. We were talking about the specific record that Clucas has. The only ones that would want that specific record are those that start in non league football.

Absolutely no arguments that every player wants to score in every division/cup/league game they play in.

Jod said it's a record no player would want. That was the conversation. He then backtracked and tried to say it was an amazing achievement and he never 'rained on Clucas' parade' when he did. That's all it was.

If there's no arguments then there's no disagreement and Jod's point is moot.

The semantics debated on this board day after day are absolutely mind numbing.

Here's an interesting little statistic (if true. It looks like it is, but I got it off twitter):

Luis Suarez in the PL: 107 starts, 3 sub appearances, ~9,600 minutes, 69 goals. ~139 mins/goal

Harry Kane in the PL: 93 starts, 12 sub appearances, ~8,472 minutes, 68 goals. ~124 mins/goal

You've opened an interesting can of worms :D

Haha I'm not actually trying to say he's better because he's obviously not. Suarez was insane and genuinely scared the shit out of me every time we played Liverpool.

It's a nice little reference though to once again show how ridiculous Kane's record is at this point of his career.
