Crikey, where did this come from? Why is it a good thing women’s game is getting good numbers? Are you some kind of passive beta male or something. I mean give me one good reason why it’s a “good thing” unless you’re just trying to virtue signal
To answer you. It's a good thing for the women that play the game, because it's clear from the TV numbers, and the crowd that I've seen, that there is much more interest, certainly more interest then in the past. In the Matildas and WBBL games, you can get that local suburbern feel about them, and its nice little niche that they're got going on there that gives a good vibe.
In regards to myself, Two things: 1. I enjoyed seeing a good game on a night where I had finished everything, and wanted some casual entertainment. And 2. I do have some investment in the women's side of things, having been involved somewhat at the local scene, where both men's football and women's netball are equally treated. (Our clubs down here are football AND netball clubs, joined as one.) To me, a Vixens Premiership means as much to me as a Magpies Premiership (and I'll admit, I'm probably the only one here that has that mindset. (Come at me) Then again, I do have to admit the Magpies Premiership was better celebrated because of the circumstances, as opposed to the Vixens, who are a natural powerhouse.) Yes, I have memberships to both clubs, and if there was a day where the Pies and Vixens were on one after another, you better believe I'd be rolling in glee!
I'll admit that Netball is the one I want to see actually become properly professional and grow, but if there are female versions of male-dominated sports going on, I'd be happy for them to get the support... and if I'm free, and its very easily accessible, I might just tune in if it happens to be on and just casually watch it. After all, more Victorians crushing the scum is always appreciated, especially if they put on a good show.
