not as many as we do.

it genuinely baffles me every time i see the stat come up mid game and see that we've created 20+ when I haven't thought we look close to scoring once!
It's cos you are a perfectionist JD and you want to see us be Barca every match. Walker and Rose are creating havoc to most teams trust me

not barca, just at a level of the rest of our top 6 rivals.

we don't have a player who can pick a pass (in the silva or ozil mould) and rely nearly solely on our full backs.

You are making me feel gloomy JD. Things aren't as bad as you make out

nah they're not bad at all

but to say we are this creative attacking force based on a fluffy stat is wrong that's all i'm saying, we are the most stale attack but all around most solid of the top 6

Erikson has been short of form until lately, Alli also not hit the heights of last season as yet. Kane has been injured but as I said just now in spurs thread we are probs one real quality signing in attack away from being set. Wether we can attract a player of exceptional quality is another matter as that kind of player can pick from any of the top 6 and wage wise, we can't compete

Even still i think Eriksen & Alli are more goal scoring AMs than creative ones.

I guess its the old chestnut of good teams take their chances

Not necessarily, I only just read an article on it and it outlined that managers like Poch, Mourinho and Simeone have always wherever they've been relied on weight of numbers. There's even some metric to measure it.

Stands to reason that all 3 are defensive structure minded coaches that prefer defensive solidity and a more methodical build up. The key for us actually is to eliminate errors that lead to quality opportunities for our opposition (ala Burnley's goal on the weekend) and thus be able to grind out 1-0 wins.

More attack minded coaches like Wenger, Klopp etc don't have this problem but instead concede more quality chances to the opposition (why fans bemoan goals they concede). Conte somehow has found an lance between defensively solid yet still being able to attack freely. Who knows how long until that's figured out, might be too late to stop a title, time will tell.

This.

We can't just walk the ball into the back of the net whenever we want. We have to take long shots at times to draw the opposition out.

Actually, Eriksen is that player. He's created something like the 3rd most chances in the league and was only behind Ozil last season as the most creative player in the league.

Despite his so-called 'poor' season so far (an assessment I completely disagree with) he's still a major contributor and still one of the most creative players in the league.

Yeah but they count a pass sideways to a pointless shot by Dembele or Wanyama as a chance

It's better to take that pot shot than lose possession and get hit by a counter. When you've got nine or ten opposition players in front of you there isn't much more you can do. Might as well take the shot even though you only have 1 or 2% chance of scoring. You can't play the whole game on the counter - we are not Barca where we can walk through teams unfortunately. The manager knows what he is doing

Is it really better? I don't think Poch wants us taking those crap shots they just come out of frustration when we've got nothing on. My point was its a shit stat because it's creating a 1/1000 chance rather than one that is actually a goal scoring threat

Did you finish last season pretty well? Always forget how mid table sides finish the season ;)
Mid table gags from a Spurs supporter:D:p

We were top 4 pace under Guus:thumbsu:

The handful of times I've seen Tottenham this season, the one thing that's struck me compared to last season is the speed (or lack of) with which they transition from defence into attack. They're much slower getting the ball in to their key players in the final third than they were in 15/16. Consequently while they're less vulnerable to being countered against, they're also giving the opposition more time to set up a block across the top of the area. They've lost that ruthless directness that made them so difficult to defend against last season.

A lot of it comes down to sides figuring us out a bit better rather than change in personnel or pace.

Sides are giving us more and more possession to counter our pressing which was our biggest attacking weapon last season. Real test for Poch to find another way to work his way through sides. Looks like 3-4-2-1 might be the way he tries this with Walker and Rose bombing forward

Excellent to re-sign the player who is, according to David De Gea, the best goalkeeper in the league. He would know, of course, being a decent keeper himself.
