I'd have thought expectations were high for him a few years ago - although those numbers are probably slightly optimistic even without hindsight

Not at all, just remembered the quite serious expectation of how Sterling would kick on. And I do recall the 30 & 30 figure bandied about, but I'm fairly sure 50 goals was talked about as a reasonable target for him to be scoring in all comps within a few years of joining.

The problem with Sterling is the ball is too big for him. It comes up to his knees. Must be hard for him to kick it.

We all get it wrong about players. For some reason most people here think that when you pay shit loads for a player it automatically means he's gonna be the business. The great thing about football is how unpredictable it can be imo

20/20 might have been achievable all comps when you consider how many goals City were knocking in around 13/14. Didn't they score 100 league goals back then

Yes that was my point, so rarely is it achieved.

But at the same time, not reaching it doesn't necessarily mean he's been unsuccessful either. It's such an unrealistic stretch target to measure him against.

Im not being anti-Sterling, it's ages ago and he hasnt gone on to conquer the world so I dont really care about it anymore but I agree, well at least at Liverpool. He would be behind Salah/Firmino/Mane in our front three.

Can't find all the stats from cups etc but Henry may have done it in 02-03 as he was 24/20 in the PL only.

Agreed. Was quite good earlier in the season from what I saw. Has plenty of upside in him irrespective of not meeting such a crazy target.
