You can't afford to buy players any more apparently.

Now that we've all calmed down I feel like it's ok to post that last night was surprisingly the first I'd ever read about Marcos Alonso's history.

It's probably been addressed before, but that's a seriously ****ed up situation and one of the most egregious examples of 'footballing privilege,' if you like, that I've come across.

Hes a very lucky boy to be alive let alone not in a jail cell. Will be something that'll haunt him for the rest of his life.
His mental state regarding it would be interesting. I wonder if he feels guilty as he earns his millions of pounds per year or if he's comfortable in his situation. You also wonder how the family of the girl feels seeing him in the current position that he's in and seeing his name positively in the news and whatnot.

I knew someone who was involved in a similar situation (the person that passed in the accident when he was driving was his best mate) who struggled with it, developed a serious drug addiction and committed suicide shortly thereafter. Mind you, he wasn't exactly wealthy, had a difficult relationship with his family and didn't have a lot to fall back on and use for support.

What he do?

It really is staggering when you look at what happened. Driving at over twice the speed limit, with a blood alcohol reading of 0.93.

He kills his friend due to his stupidity and recklessness, yet walks away from it with just a €60k fine. What price on a life hey? Incredible.

Shit... 60K is nothing to him either. It's like us normal plebs getting a 300 dollar fine.

Yeah it is ****ing riduclous. From what I can tell, in Australia a 'regular person' could face up to 10 years imprisonment for something similar.

I'm not sure if it's true but I read that he also paid a total of 500k Euros to the family of the victim which also mitigated the punishment. But what's that to him? **** all.

Thought this was a bit cool. Just cleaning out the loft and found this in a box I'm throwing out.

I originally found it under the carpet when we bought our house.

It's from the Sunday People in 1981 about Liverpool's new "sensation".
