Also have to consider that all the plastic supporters who tune in for United v Liverpool are generally not going to watch United v Stoke. They watch the big games. So the smaller clubs lose out significantly and overall interest decreases if it's on a pay per game basis. More people would tune in for games if they're already paying for the entire season.

Over time interest in the league outside of a handful of fixtures drops off significantly and the product is ruined. All for a few bucks rather than finding other ways to increase revenue.

United will already run RM and others close this season with a very good squad. Turning English football upside down because they haven't won the CL in ten years is just petulant.
Your first paragraph is incorrect.

United are easily the most viewed team in the prem. Neutrals might not tune in to United vs stoke but the global fanbase do.
I'm talking about united fans not watching drab united games. Same for arsenal and Chelsea.

Moomba makes some decent points to be fair. Probably born out of his desire to keep City the richest club in the league though :D
We're not the richest club in the league.

And we would be significantly richer if something like this came in.

The time zone doesn't help and Australia doesn't make up a large proportion of United fans.

Time zone doesn't help for the games against big clubs but those still get watched. My point was casual fans don't watch every game of the season, so equating the numbers that you get for one of your biggest games of the season and extrapolating that as some gold mine sitting untapped is a bit trivial when it won't even make a significant difference in the Champions League. What will is the entire league improving and rights increasing. A rising tide lifts all ships.

I wasn't extrapolating viewership at all. 52% of the premier leagues global audience watch United games. There is no available data for last season but United vs Palace and United vs Swansea were top 10 viewed games in the prem a few years ago.

Individual club deals will never work. They had it in La Liga and scrapped it. United and Liverpool are 5% of an entire league no matter how many fans they get watching their games there is no PL without the smaller teams providing competition to the bigger ones. I don't ever see the PL board allowing clubs to sell their own rights individually.

Never say never Zizou. We've been down this road before hahaha

It's interesting that NBA uses equalisation measures (salary cap and draft) where the Soccer leagues don't really - given that Europe is a lot more socialist than the US. What's that about? Can't think of another sport where some teams are able to cannibalise the other teams for personal gain.
I also can't imagine being a supporter of a club with a a monopoly on the wealth and revenue streams. Makes it all pointless, imagine being a Real supporter in a league with total dominance year after year after year ........ what's the point?
