What does expansion actually cost if the sides coming in are established NPL sides with infrastructure, branding, and existing squads that would just need topping up? Genuine question. A-League get big license fees out of them and presumably would get a lot more in TV rights.

Off field staff a few hundred thousand there.

Travel costs every second week.

Tv rights wouldn't be a sure thing to be massive. Fox wouldn't want to tie itself into a big deal until the clubs prove they aren't going to be like NQF. They also don't want to pay big $$$ to broadcast poorly attended games. So they'd minimise the risk by doing a short deal to see what would happen. It'll also cost them more to broadcast more games needing more on air talent etc.

Not necessarily, plenty would be football fans going for the event, otherwise Adelaide would get bigger crowds at premier regular season fixtures.

No I think it's an indication there's an appetite for good quality football all over Australia and having proper rivalries will be good for the game. A rising tide lifts all ships.

Whatever they did and whatever the majority of their supporter make up was when they started that's what a new club needs if it's to work as a second side. they've also got a perfect example of what not to do with the heart. So there's really no reason the FFA fail with it.

I do very much think you're wrong. A lot of people would support City for the history and for following a club that isn't Crows lite (this isn't a Port only thing either). Adelaide City would get normal United numbers easily if in the A-League.

When people discuss Canberra, hat you also need to take into consideration is the surrounding areas such as Albury, Wodonga and Wagga off the top of my head add a potential support base of over 250,000 people from those places alone going off of population statistics. Now granted, most people won't just hop on board, but there'd be a few starved football fans in that area who'd watch a side if it was close enough. A reformed Canberra Olympic would do alright IMO supporter wise.

Worry is with these amalgamation teams that hoping to just cover those areas rarely works. It's kind of like GWS trying to be WS and Canberra, it's just a bit tough. Canberra Olympic is over 60 years old and got nearly 6,000 people to a game not long ago. Imagine that in the A-League.

Difference between GWS and a potential Canberra side is one team tries to be a WS/ACT side whilst the other one would be a mostly ACT side with surrounding areas attached to it. Different arguments with those two.

Adelaide United trying to become the NT team would be similar to the Giants and Canberra.
