What does expansion actually cost if the sides coming in are established NPL sides with infrastructure, branding, and existing squads that would just need topping up? Genuine question. A-League get big license fees out of them and presumably would get a lot more in TV rights.
What would a wage bill cost? Salary cap + marquee.

Off field staff a few hundred thousand there.

Travel costs every second week.

Tv rights wouldn't be a sure thing to be massive. Fox wouldn't want to tie itself into a big deal until the clubs prove they aren't going to be like NQF. They also don't want to pay big $$$ to broadcast poorly attended games. So they'd minimise the risk by doing a short deal to see what would happen. It'll also cost them more to broadcast more games needing more on air talent etc.

Not necessarily, plenty would be football fans going for the event, otherwise Adelaide would get bigger crowds at premier regular season fixtures.
Most of the non regulars aren't going to be week in week out elsewhere either. They're just fair weather United supporters. Hardly any will become die hard second club supporters.

Since when did the a league pay a club's off field staff?

I assume they subsidise travel to an extent but surely bit entirely.

Fox would naturally have to pay more for more games, as covered with Jatz.

If you say so.

I thought you meant what would it cost the clubs. Costs the a league nothing but some travel and PR if it fails.

For clubs they'd spend $6-8m which is quite a lot more than an NPL club currently spends.

If you say so.
You reckon most people going to the gf for an Occassion would suddenly become week in week out supporters of another club?

Does tassie have a bigger football pedigree than Canberra? Haven't quite a few Socceroos come from Canberra?

FAITH Magma is there a gap in the market in Adelaide where a second side would be able to do what WSW have done and not just be a MH

Talk is Adelaide city, but IMO it wouldn't work. They are an Italian club and no one else would support them. Smart thing to do would set up a northern team and have united as central

No I think it's an indication there's an appetite for good quality football all over Australia and having proper rivalries will be good for the game. A rising tide lifts all ships.

It's good that the a league has the base case they should use for a second side in WSW.

Whatever they did and whatever the majority of their supporter make up was when they started that's what a new club needs if it's to work as a second side. they've also got a perfect example of what not to do with the heart. So there's really no reason the FFA fail with it.

I do very much think you're wrong. A lot of people would support City for the history and for following a club that isn't Crows lite (this isn't a Port only thing either). Adelaide City would get normal United numbers easily if in the A-League.

That's too idealistic. Wsw was the perfect storm which is nigh on impossible to replicate.

Maybe not tick every box they had but at least most of them. Can't afford to get anything wrong in a smaller city than Melbourne

When people discuss Canberra, hat you also need to take into consideration is the surrounding areas such as Albury, Wodonga and Wagga off the top of my head add a potential support base of over 250,000 people from those places alone going off of population statistics. Now granted, most people won't just hop on board, but there'd be a few starved football fans in that area who'd watch a side if it was close enough. A reformed Canberra Olympic would do alright IMO supporter wise.

Worry is with these amalgamation teams that hoping to just cover those areas rarely works. It's kind of like GWS trying to be WS and Canberra, it's just a bit tough. The only reason regional Vic would work would be because it could have a predominantly Geelong supporter base keeping it afloat on its own.

Canberra Olympic is over 60 years old and got nearly 6,000 people to a game not long ago. Imagine that in the A-League.

Difference between GWS and a potential Canberra side is one team tries to be a WS/ACT side whilst the other one would be a mostly ACT side with surrounding areas attached to it. Different arguments with those two.

Adelaide United trying to become the NT team would be similar to the Giants and Canberra.

No ground they can use between October and May continuously.
The football club can't even train there for good portions of summer.

how ******* dare you compare me to that campaigner.

I was wondering why you were sending private messages to WR asking him to meet in a dimly lit Dagenham car park and flash his lights upon arrival.
