"I wouldn’t be surprised if after killing the guy, he’d changed his clothes and came in to join the search,” Ward said in hindsight.

Ward described DeAngelo as super smart and serious.

“Joe was kind of the black sheep of the family, standoffish, and he didn’t like to joke around,” he said.

Ward added that he thought DeAngelo had a master’s degree and wondered what he was doing working for a small town agency.

“He was a nice enough guy and friendly [with the other officers]. He was good at his job,” Ward said."

What did they say about the actual arrest?

They said they chose to arrest him as he was leaving his home as they were concerned with what he might have planned if they tried to go into his home or if they intercepted him while driving. They also said that when the arrested him, he seemed to react like he had planned for this but didn’t have time to do anything.

I find it interesting how they talk about him as if he is guilty without trial ..... not that I am saying for a second he isn’t. In Australia, the cops make an arrest and you dont hear anything for 2 years. Look at the Claremont serial killer, it’s close to 2 years (I think) since they made an arrest and we still know basically nothing at all.

His admission perhaps?

"In 1976, while working in Exeter, DeAngelo was promoted to sergeant and put in charge of an anti-burglary team with another sergeant from a nearby department, according to a newspaper article from the time. DeAngelo “will investigate burglaries and attempt to prevent them by informing the public about burglary prevention methods,” according to the article. The team was called “Joint Attack on Burglary.”

Shocker.

Neighbor from hell who turned out to be a 'serial killer': Stunned residents tell how the Golden State Killer would threaten to 'deliver a load of death' over dogs barking and yelled about lawn mowing

Some of the thinking behind Zodiac and BTK is they accessed the house previously through utilities work. I wonder if they can link burglary reports prior to the attacks

His brother in law quoted below

Huddle recalled DeAngelo once casually bringing up the East Area Rapist case in the early 1970s.

"He actually asked me about it once," Huddle told Oxygen.com. "He said, 'What do you think of that East Area Rapist? What would you do, Jim?'"

Huddle said he told DeAngelo that he'd attack the rapist if he caught him.

Its like Dennis Rader seems his family didnt know.

Was he highly transient? Or his resided in the same premises the whole time?

What was his new job post PD?

I am genuinely fascinated to understand how he got away with what he was doing.

The sheer volume and brazenness of the home invasions, especially the incidents in Sacramento are hard to comprehend

Thats a nice cluster model. Where there is smoke, there is fire.
A good example of one persons capacity to do so much serial damage.

Some people say stop trying to connect crimes together.
Its actually trying to eliminate the crime. Finding an attribute that will eliminate that person from the crime.
Otherwise its just tunnel vision because a potential perp has not been tested against the crime.

Whats an attribute of Ted that would eliminate him from being the Zodiac?

Well, someone in his family did dob him in without realising that's what they were doing.

Sacramento investigators tracked down East Area Rapist suspect Joseph James DeAngelo using genealogical websites that contained genetic information from a relative, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Thursday.

The effort was part of a painstaking process that began by using DNA from one of the crime scenes from years ago and comparing it to genetic profiles available online through various websites that cater to individuals wanting to know more about their family backgrounds by accepting DNA samples from them, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Grippi.

One of those online DNA tests where they claim you can find out what part of the world you’re from?

Wow. Ol Joe will be wrapt with whichever family member did that

That DNA element is pretty full on.

If you take what we've learned about Facebook and your private info and apply it to DNA, well, hmmm.
